Did trilly say something recently? Hoosiers recruiting on instagram posted “things with Brad Stevens are heating up”

full disclosure i don’t think the account is very reliable but just wondering why they think that / where the read that at. The only thing i don’t have is trilly.

Trilly hasn't. Rabby isn't downplaying things though. TBH things will stay the same for at least a couple weeks. Nothing concrete will be happening.

Appreciate your post, and it's giving me a chance to maybe clear some things up. I don't know Brad Stevens or anyone in his family. I never worked for or with Brad Stevens. I left the Celtics before Stevens got there, but many of the same people still work there and I have an understanding of how the team, ownership and operations work, etc..

I wasn't in basketball ops, but was in a role on the business side as close to basketball ops as you can be without being in it.

I spoke to a high-ranking Celtics person who is an NBA institution behind the scenes. I visited him shortly after Woodson was hired. I asked him if he thought Stevens would ever coach in college again, and it was an emphatic, laughing "No". He gave some reasons and the "no" was emphatic. There is more to it, but not going into all of the details.

For those that would reply, "well, Stevens wouldn't tell him if he was considering IU.", his "no" wasn't because he asked Stevens directly, you're not going to do that in that situation, it's because he has spent the better part of 10+ years working directly with him, working with Celtics ownership and executives, etc., etc. My person is an extremely trusted person in the NBA.

With that said, people change, times change and circumstances change. Based on what I know, I'd be shocked if Stevens coaches in college in the near future, but there are also things like the ownership situation that are different this time around. I'll just be shocked if it happens.

I got the laughing no from a former player on the back to back ff teams. A core group of coaches and players from those teams are very close. I’m very good friends with the players brother. We were never close like some say here.

This is what @Chris007 has been suggesting.  If it’s Brad, no harm in having the job open now.  If it wasn’t Brad, Dolson very well would’ve waited until the end of the season.    Opening the job know means schools are trying to lock down their coach.

If you look at Kathy’s last post in the FMW thread she says IU asked Woodson to wait but he chose not to. So take it FWIW

if you've driven through Louisville on 65... you've been to UL campus

The UL campus is so bad lol. Pretty nice athletics campus though despite the location and the Yum Center downtown is first class. Related since it's close to campus: I was stunned to learn that Churchill Downs is in the middle of...that area right in the middle of the city.

Speaking of processes........ where has our resident BoT member been?  (I'm still a few pages behind this morning if she surfaces in the next 5 pages)

Nah, she gone - crawled back into her hole to look for a new process...

Dude, if you think those guys aren’t inspiring given what they’ve done, I don’t really know what to say to that. Golden has Florida in line for a 1 seed and just kicked Bruce Pearl’s a$$ on the road and Kelsey is arguably National COY and fixed a stone dead program in 1 year.

I don’t think IU fans are uniquely quick to give up on a guy but I would really encourage  folks not to be inclined toward negativity no matter who they hire. Almost by definition IU is going to hire a guy who’s been successful at a place with much fewer resources.

Look at Mark Pope, just as one example: clearly a good coach before this year but probably only gets a blue blood job because of his connection to it. Still hasn’t won a tourney game or whatever but does anyone think that will be the case long-term? Of course not.

Same here: other than Stevens, I’d assume any hire is going to have a resume with a weak spot. Doesn’t mean he’s a doomed failure.

Yum Center is nice, but it feels sterile. The environment falls far short of a really good college arena - much more of an NBA experience.

Cronin would bring IU back to winning and competing for conference titles however most this fanbase would hate the hire.

Is the fanbase really in position to chide a proven P5 coach who has a 30 win season and a F4 all within the last 5 years? Like I said a week ago, this place is going to be an absolute mess when Dusty signs that extension and Stevens turns us down. You won't find a more qualified coach that is potentially willing to come to IU than Cronin.

The guy has physically beat and bit his girlfriend  in a DV altercation, that is factual.

He has been videoed drunk in a campus bar, alone on Christmas day, being a d*ck to a woman asking for an autograph on a mini basketball, that is factual.

He has quit drinking twice and gone back to drinking twice, that is factual.

Color me skeptical.

ehhhh... to some of your "points"

but.. I thought he was begging for the job?

Skeptical is fair, though, and I'm still not clamoring for him as much as I am bored and like discussing things.

Mike’s rep is back to peddle a pro-Woody narrative, but no one cares this time around.

In was a weird process, but bottom line Woody got fired.  Which makes sense, he is one of the worst coaches in D1 hoops.

@Chris007 I remember you saying Scott and Brad have developed a relationship since our last search. Could it be that Brad simply told Scott ‘no’ but offered himself as a resource or consultant? Maybe Brad is providing Scott with guidance on candidates, which might be why many insiders believe we’re talking with him—just not in the capacity they were hoping for?

And all the bars in town

But Kevin Wilson had stocked fridges. Beard should be shotgun a couple beers after the post game press conference. I mean come on wine and cigars flow right now

Yeah that's fair. Nice arena, just not very college basketball-y. That's a huge reason I'm hesitant to move on from AH.
