General Coach Candidate News

Recommended Posts

Getting chills thinking of Wittman running the show with Isiah in a general manager role. You’re talking decades of NBA experience. Recruits will be lining up out the door for those connections.
Wittman or Michael Lewis. That would be such an iu thing to do.

Sorry, dominating the BIg South with wins over Presbyterian and Longwood......nah.....if he dominates at Louisville for 4-5 years, then the experiment is proven and would take him...but not at this point....

Wow; that's awfully charitable of you. You should let Louisville know in 4-5 years that their dominant coach will be taken.

I know you are a moderator but being a smartass really doesn't fit the board...

I have been asking this same question and have not gotten an answer.  Michigan may have had that low because he was not a sure fire guy at this level and wanted an offramp if he could not reproduce the FAU results.

You guys are confusing two different things. In these contracts there are two clauses on separation.

1. “The buy out” is what the coach or another party would owe the university of Michigan if the coach left for another job. The coach always wants this to be as low as possible and the university wants it as high as possible.

and,

2. The guaranteed portion of the contract due to the coach if he’s fired. The university always wants this as low as possible and the coach wants it as high as possible.

When people talk about Dusty’s low buyout, they’re talking about scenario 1. I have no idea if any of it is true but that’s how it generally works.

What coach is leaving after dominating 4-5 years at Louisville. People should really look at how coaching searches for schools across the country have gone recently. People aren’t leaving schools they have rolling

Understood...it was a hypothetical....as in the current record does not do it for me....He been to the field of 64 twice and now he is having a good year and somehow that is a good indicator of him being a great coach? If that is the case, again, lets just rehire Crean....

Correct me if I’m wrong on this.  Kelsey makes 2.3 mil.  His contract is through 2029.  95% buyout I believe puts it at somehere 8-10 million?

I don’t want Kelsey but how’s that compare to Dusty’s?

I'm more interested in comparing Kelsey to Dusty to Ben McCollum to Archie Miller at Dayton.  Money to me is not the issue.  It is can this prospective coach win?  And can he transition to IU and fit?  And can he recruit?  And can he win the boosters over?  Can he tell the difference between an X and an O and ...circles back to win at this level?  I mean compete for the top of the B1G almost every year and make a run deep into the final 16 with a chance at the NC periodically.  Does he understand the importance of guard play and game planning?

Speaking of processes........ where has our resident BoT member been?  (I'm still a few pages behind this morning if she surfaces in the next 5 pages)

She’s in the Fire Woodson thread a day late and a dollar short with her version of why Woody moved on.  Go say hi.

Sure but when negotiating these, the school can argue for a lower #2 and the coach can argue for a lower #1.  If a school insists on a low #2 the coach will do the same and argue for a low #1 and vice versa.  So i see them as all part of the negotiations.

I feel like there’s zero chance Kelsey leaves Louisville. He’s all in with them or a great actor. Also think there’s zero chance golden leaves because why would he. He has no ties to Indiana and has Florida rolling. He’ll get a nice raise to stay

I think the open IU job is going to get A LOT of guys raises in the next few weeks, if their agents are good...

My point was did dusty take the Michigan job for a 4-5 million dollar buyout versus a 8-10 million dollar buyout so he could slide over to Iu or just because he doesn’t like river people?
