That was Connie Chung interview late 1980’s….Knight said his statement was misinterpreted…..comparing it to an airplane going down and what can you do about it…..knight viewed himself as a perfectionist on the English language and History)….Connie Chung took a little smack on her shoulder and facial cheek as they were talking about control and Knight demonstrating encouragement.

Our president Ehrlich spoke out against him so Knight flew to Arizona State to ink another deal. Students found out, picketed his house, hung him in effigy; and the prez recounted his statement. The rest is history but it’s easy to see how our loser mentality now permeates the entire administration. F Myles Brand who started it.

Of the guys who I could see realistically take the IU job, he's my #1. Otzelberger and Will Wade are my 1 and 2 but I don't see Otz leaving ISU and I have finally resigned myself to accepting the IU brass won't approach Wade. I would take Oats, Beard, and Scott Drew over Cronin in a heartbeat but they aren't realistic candidates and the Stevens talk is pure nonsense that I won't even entertain. May, Williams, McCollum, etc would feel a lot like settling at this point.

Cronin cleaned up Alford's mess quickly, wins on a consistent basis which is the thing I like the most about him, has a hardass-mentality which is needed here, and has ties to the Midwest which will help with recruiting given IU's NIL resources.

I’d love Oats.  Think he’d come?

For a coach to be do superior like you said Beard is to Cronin then why do they have pretty much the same winning percentage

Cronin 68.4,%

Beard 69.1%

So with this and the off the court things I would take Cronin.

Cronin is a good coach.  Beard has made it to the Elite 8 twice in 8 full years of coaching division 1.  Cronin has made it once in 21 years.

The floor is about the same for both in my opinion.  Both would do well.  The ceiling is higher with Beard.

That being said, I'm not particularly a fan of either being Indiana's head coach.

No. His team is ranked #!. They are on pace to probably win the best conference in CBB and be a #1 seed. He was in a FF last year. IU offers nothing that he can't achieve where he is.

His new contract will now run through the 2029-30 season.

Oats will be paid $5 million the first year of his new deal, athletics director Greg Byrne told the committee, with annual increases to $7.55 million the last year. Oats' previous deal was set to pay him $4.7 million in 2024-25 to $5.5 million in 2028-29. Oats' new salary places him within the top seven coaches in USA Today's database of publicly-available contracts.

Oats' buyout under his new deal will be $18 million for the first two years until March 2026, which Byrne said is the highest of any coach in the country based on his research. The buyout then drops to $10 million until March 2027, when it drops to $4 million until March 2028.

Ya Oats isn't leaving unless you pay the buyout and offer him $10 million or more per year.  Even then Alabama probably restructures his contract to match.

I wonder if Few is mentioned because he wants to put the heat on Gonzaga to increase their NIL or his contract. I think there will be a lot of movement on coaches using IU to possibly increase their own pay.

I also remember Cronin saying that the IU job was a dumpster fire, I can't see 4 more years of Woodson changing that outlook for him. Not sure why he is in discussions
