8bucks Posted February 10 Posted February 10 10 hours ago, Stuhoo said: Okay… hyperbole aside? McCollum has been absolutely dominant in D2 and has had an excellent 2/3 of a year in the MAC, but that doesn’t remotely address the GM duties, personality juggling (and that includes boosters, agents, fans, media, and the BOT), and quality of opposition coaches he’d deal with in the B1G. I see the attraction, but a guy like Buzz Williams is a zillion times better choice for me. This reminded me of that Butler coach so many IU fans wish we had hired. The best window to hire him was before Crean was hired in 2008. Stevens became Bulter's coach in 2007 and finished his first year with an incredible 30-4 record including a win over RMK and TT. I remember that search well and never remember hearing his name mentioned as a candidate. We needed more proof, which is reasonable, except when you have a "good" coach as Crean was who has up and down years the timing for replacing him with Stevens (after we got more proof) is dependent on down year timing. I am not suggesting McCollum is the next Stevens at all. I would swing away at the real Stevens, Few, TJ, Oats and May but if you miss on those guys then in the next tier, I am definitely talking to him along with some others. If I talked with him I would need to him to convince me he has the basketball acumen to win, the personality to interact with players, alum and boosters and the drive/grind to succeed. Those things you cannot see from a coach during a game but are crucial to success at this level. Why someone thought Archie had those is beyond me. BannerVille, kottke, Pagoda and 2 others 5

How else did you think Stuhoo spends his very generous NIL from BTB? Why make coffee at home when you can jet set to Boston! Stuhoo, Chris007, choosierred1 and 2 others 2 3

I prefer these weeks compared to the weeks of "start of the season until now", personally. Listening to posters whine every time there is a subject being discussed they don't like is more annoying than repeated information, though. kottke 1

That being said, she didn't have any information from her cousin on any family plans to move back to the Bloomington area. My dentist didn't have any information either as I asked him just before he shot me full of Novocain before the "small" cavity he was fixing. I tried to find out some information for the group. Giving a yourself a cavity to try to pry information from Dusty May's cousin's wife while she was jamming tools in your mouth is dedication. Kudos. Home Jersey, thebigweave, 8bucks and 2 others 1 4

It's a hard no from the athletic department side, he was passed on before het got arrested. Correct. For all claiming you have to get this hire right, taking a chance on a purported alcoholic with domestic violence in his background is a serious roll of the dice. And one the administration just won’t take. go iu bb, Banksyrules, raorIU and 6 others 9

An analogy, IMO... Picking out a great coach from the lower ranks is a lot like betting on a penny stock. For the situation IU is in, we're looking for a blue chip guy to come in and pay dividends right away. There could be higher upside to buying in early, but we need stability and good yield right away. ...In a different cycle I'd love taking a flyer on McCollum. Don't think it's in the cards this time around though. VFury, 8bucks and sweetpain 3

Hoosierfan2017 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Every coach comes with risks, even Brad Stevens. Beard’s risks are entirely off the court. There’s no question he’d come here and win a lot of games. Just depends on which risks you’re willing to take, I suppose. DChoosier and Scotty R 2
