General Coach Candidate News

Latest from Jeff Rabjohns:

I’m told an announcement today is unlikely, but still could happen. Some soft chatter that if it’s not today, it will be either tomorrow, Thursday, or after the next coach is done in the tournament. I’m still following up on that with a few other people though.

(Not a real update)

Thank you Captain Obvious (Rabby not Home Jersey). Could this all be hinging on Woodson’s retirement being finalized or did that happen yesterday?

What are you trying to convince me of?

Stu is telling you Iowa has had more success in the Fran era than we've had in the last umpteen eras. He never said it was a better job. Just trying to help differentiate, and also help some people in here see that there's a legitimate reason we could be competing with Iowa for a coach. People act like we're competing with Penn State rather than a program that for several years has been more successful than ours.

No it wont.  Woodson did not have so much heat after year one.

Agree. The new coach doesn’t have to win big right away but the key to keeping the fanbase happy is good coaching, players improving, E&E from both the players and staff, using the portal as well as building foundations with high school recruiting etc. Those things buy you time

Here’s what I got. I think our next coach will be the “mystery candidate” mentioned my Goodman. I’m not fully ready to say it’s Brad but not fully ready to say it’s not. I do believe it’s a big name. Not sold on devries, I know he’s the coach of the day. That’s what I got for now.

The mystery candidate mentioned by Goodman is his fallback when he missed all his other proclamations

Ok. How about "more successful"?

Because the numbers are pretty telling.

Really? They’ve been a protected seed once since Alford was there. 0 conf titles. One tourney title since then.

Any time before that and you start having to figure in our titles and FF’s.

Fran’s their longest serving coach since dr tom and he’s never made a S16

I think the search is done and has been for a while.

the only uncertainty was whether IU would make the tournament.

It’s all logistical at this point: When, where, and how.

I would be disappointed with having to compete with Iowa for a coach, especially DeVries.

Wait Fran hasn't even made a Sw16? lol cmon now

That is the false narrative that IU fans don't give coaches a chance before turning on them. People were very patient with Crean and many still don't count the first three years. Miller and Woodson were given a two years before the grumbling really started. With any coach, there is that small minority which are unhappy from the start.

Agreed- i was in the stands those first 3 years of Crean- every home game and we saw those kids give everything they had and while it wasn't sold out the crowd that was there responded in kind.

I can see that Iowa has had, at most, marginally more success since Fran has taken over than Indiana has.

I can understand how one would feel that way. But the only real difference between the two now is that one of had 3 decades of a hall of fame coach and the other didn't. Now that we've been back down on Earth for 25 years we aren't as prime a spot as we used to be. And seriously, does Indiana not have a reputation of a completely bumbling iteration of an Athletic Administration to this point? People see it's been a clown show here for a while. Time will tell I suppose.
