I think it's DeVries for 3 reasons:

1) I'm not entirely sure McCollum wants the IU job and could be perfectly content staying at Drake.  His end game could be the Iowa job knowing Iowa very likely cannot afford DeVries nor meet certain financial demands.  Who knows - maybe it's the IU job he covets.

2) Personality.  Simply put, I think DeVries is a better fit when you consider everything the job entails.  I do however believe BM is the better coach.

3) The info leaked a few days ago that suggested BM was a serious candidate for the IU job and Scott was highly impressed or something to that effect.  I initially thought that was agent driven but now I'm not so sure...  I now believe that a certain AD was sending a clear signal to the DeVries camp to sh*t or get off the pot, talk to your Iowa buddies and make a decision or "we'll go all in on BM."

I also think you could do a role reversal here and use the two names interchangeably on most of what I just said lol

My question is...why would any good coach want the Iowa job in the NIL era unless the coach doesn't have another decent offer on his plate? From recruiting standpoint, Iowa is not a good place, and they don't offer a good NIL budget to compete against top teams in the BIG. To me, it seems like winning big at Iowa is getting harder. If McCollum takes the Iowa gig, he must be supremely confident about his coaching ability.

Can someone explain why we'd potentially be pursuing DeVries? Is it because Iowa just opened and we're both interested in McCollum?

Because he’s the flavor of the day. Nobody knows who we are pursuing at this point. But hopefully it’s not Brownell lol

Oooof. This would be a settle hire. Like I said earlier, could be worse but it’s a settle if true. I, therefore, doubt it.

I wish we could have a looking glass and a multiverse to see the 2026 roster of the 5 or 6 coaches “in contention” then make a selection.

If we hire Devries we have a middle of the pack coach in the B1G. Would seem to expect middle of the pack results.

Very well stated and I agree on almost everything you've said.

Two Missouri Valley Tourney Championships and one regular season Championship. In 6 years. Has he won a NCAA tournament game? Was he better than Josh Schertz last year? This would stack up right beside the Archie hire.

For all we know DeVries could be leveraging IU and Iowa at WVU's expense and maybe BM is perfectly happy at Drake.  Otherwise, your points are on point.

Of course I could be dead wrong, but if we don't hear anything in the next few days, Brad Stevens was pretty much never a candidate. Woodson announcement was out on 2/8, so probably Dolson started his due diligence at least a month before that. My guess is he's been communicated with all viable candidates through the front and the back channels. I would venture to guess Dolson already has his guy.

We still trust Rabby after the Tucker faux pas?

It’s not like he suddenly stopped having sources but I don’t blame anyone

Curry Hicks on X also has said that credible sources have told him it’s done and IU has someone signed.

My guess? It’s not DeVries. I don’t think that smoke came out of nowhere. I think it was targeted. He just met with Iowa today and walked away without a contract. I believe his agent started linking his name to the IU job in order to induce Iowa to piss or get off the pot and up their offer to him.

Rabby also got texts this morning way Tucker was entering the portal, we saw what happened then.
Rabby is done.

He has the wrong idea of “it’s done”. Feels like a mafia movie
