Napleshoosier Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Question? if you were stuck with a coach for five years, would you rather have Alford or Crean? one or the other! Dhop 1

I'd rather keep Woodson than bring in Brownell. Not hyperbole, he's just a total dork Hornsby and P92 2
Hornsby Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Anyone else listen to the Sleepers podcast talk about the off-court issues with Greg McDermott? They said like Beard, there's a host of issues with Gregg too that the public doesn't know about. (Not the same issue, drinking too much and physically abusing women, but they alluded to different skeletons.) Then there's the awkwardness around what some other coaches have intentionally side-stepped when asked about Greg. One interview recently that comes to mind is with Crean. Then there's the complete inability to even reach .500 in four seasons with Iowa St. when the season before Morgan got them to the tournament and the coaches after him--Hoiberg, Prohm, and TJO were at least able to do that. Plus Creighton has a winning culture. It has for so long. Remember all the success Altman had there. It's kind of like Dayton. Greg probably wouldn't flame out at IU like he did at ISU, but his success at Northern Iowa pales in comparison to what has come after him, he flopped at ISU, then landed in a place that has a structure and a culture that has produced winning coaches previously. Listening to the Xs and Joes podcast about the criteria/formula for finding a successful P4 coach, and he doesn't measure up. Generally speaking his teams have great offensive action--defense, not so much. Again, I'm not saying he is terrible or that he wouldn't do better than Woodson, but I don't think his resume is such that he should be considered an upper tier candidate. Plus, Im really curious what those skeletons could possibly be. And, no, it's not just the "plantation" comment.Every coach has skeletons for the most part. At least the ones who have been successful and around awhile. I get it iu won't touch these guys but that's why st johns is 28-4. They don't care about the past. Iu does and why its a very hard job to hire for not that nobody wants it. Text messages gave iu cold feet to ever hire a guy again with a past imo. May was obviously our best no past we know of hire but we waited too long.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk BGleas 1

Those skeletons must be buried miles deep since he’s no one seems to know what they are and no one can even say what they are. and you don’t continue to win for twenty years just because of some ‘winning culture’. The whole ‘everybody wins there’ being used for a reason that someone wins is just so lame. JPCIVOP, Hornsby, Home Jersey and 1 other 4
Hornsby Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Despite only two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last eight years and one Final Four appearance this century, this remains one of the best jobs in college basketball, but the program needs a proven college coach. Recruiting If that's true we are either passing on guys we could get due to holier than thou stuff or it's bs and it's not a good job.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk jonz44 1

We can't relive the past, and can't embrace the future. The game has moved on, but we haven't. Admittedly, today's college game has, like the NBA, distilled all the many wonderful components of basketball into one: three-point shooting. TV ratings and money insured that end. Compared to Bob Knight's era, today's game has all the intellectual depth of tinker toys. Still, there we are. IU's leadership reflect our divisions. There are those who want only Bob Knight protege. Others want only modern coaches to match the modern game. Still others want only to influence decisions, so as to remain relevant, even though they may not personally care one jot about IU athletics. It is a toxic, emotional cesspool in Bloomington these days, between competing factions. Now add in copious amounts of money, politics and ego. Is it really surprising we're struggling to draw top talent for the head coach position? BGleas, KNOBYDOX and Ryno6284 2 1

Popular Post str8baller Posted March 15 Popular Post Posted March 15 Can we fire back up the Dusty May talk? - His buyout is lower than fellow Hoosier Brownell -He’s playing on Saturday in the B1G tournament. Can’t remember the last time IU did that. -Apparently the B1G didn’t figure him out or he got lazy after his new contract or he added magnesium to his diet or…. I dunno…I never quite got that theory. -He’s 2-1 vs Purdue in his first year in the B1G. Let’s do some Dusty May posting today, fellas!!!! FWHoosier84, JF87, Trish and 8 others 11

Did Mike Woodson get the position because he was a top drawer candidate, or because of backroom politics, (Buckner)? Has Chris Beard been passed over, or rather would he be passed over because of past DV accusations, or because to hire someone with even a hint of impropiety, (McDermott) might threaten support from donors, or revisit a time when the University was a battleground between academia and RMK?

Both of Woodson’s first 2 seasons . 2022 vs Iowa Jordan Bohannon banks a 3 at the buzzer 2023 vs Penn State and booty ball 4 point loss I would be thrilled with Dusty just missed the boat last year with him . He would have taken last year and we’d been set for 20 years . But now I’d be more shocked than if it was Stevens . JPCIVOP and Home Jersey 2

Suggestions that BS flat out turned us down, and that the other names being tossed about are hardly a who's who of coaching talent. Short of BS or BD, we're likely "settling" again, for whomever we can get to say, "yes".
