I certainly don't think "Eric" being friends with him is any sort of indication Cronin was ever on the list. On the list and willing to take the job are different things. Mick Cronin badly wants this job.

Cronin wasn’t high on my list but I’d take him over Brownell all day. This x100 I’m not in the camp that wants Cronin at all but I’d take him 17x over Brownell. At least we know he can get us in the tournament every year. Justin Kotter and Kentuckysucks 2
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 KathyC is obviously a huge troll, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if she/he works in academia on some level. This isn't to offend anyone on BTB who does work at a university, but it is a strange place to work if you've only ever worked at a private for-profit kind of company. Her responses kind of show some of the issues that might indicate some of the reasons why IU has sucked over the past 25 years. How she focuses on minor, unrelated things (like grammar, etc...) or emphases "process" to a comical degree - that's true. I've seen it with my own eyes. I worked as a consultant for a couple of major universities and actually sat on a BoT for 2 smaller colleges at one time. I would almost laugh out loud at some of the issues that were brought up. It's that kind of stuff that totally goes on in college administrations that weighs down even easy decisions. Don't get me wrong. Massive bureaucracy and groupthink and minor issues can sometimes be a huge problem at for-profit companies too (IBM in the 60s is a famous example that is taught in some biz schools), but it seems to be a regular part of life in unis today. I wonder what kinds of crazy conversations went on behind the scenes at IU led to the hiring of Woodson? And what kinds of stupid conversations are going on right now? Just a thought. There ARE lots of ACTUAL KathyCs in the admin of IU right now. Remember that. So much of this. The Indiana administration has been glaringly bad for a long time. Not surprised we’ve made every bad decision imaginable along the way. And now, it’s all the fans fault for our inadequacies. People making decisions that have zero to do with winning because that has not been their priority. They get caught up in the minutia or concerned with ideals either cultural or political that are more important to them. Sports are for the dumbfolk in the eyes of the academics. If only they’ve learned that they’ve been doing harm all along not only in the sports world but the real world at large too. HoosierTrav Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 If they hire Brownell, at this juncture, then Knight was 100% right in his estimation that the university was actively trying to de-emphasize the basketball program. Would be a worse hire than Woodson imho. TadQueasy, JustWinBaby, realTomCrean and 4 others 7

And she's said several times she is choosing her words carefully. So the fact that she has, at least twice, said that we aren't talking with "active coaches" yet must mean something. There is no reason to use "active" otherwise. So I think one can conclude that, if you believe Kathy, that means we have been talking to non-active coaches directly. That could mean Brad or Wright. Sadly, though, that could also mean Turgeon... Put differently, everything she is saying (unless I missed a post...which could definitely be the case), is consistent with Dolson having a verbal agreement with Brad. Edit: Or, I guess, with Brad having turned down the position... Justin Kotter 1

That was part of the success that RMK had - the president and AD insulated him from all of that. It can obviously go too far - I give you SMU and UNC. LOL But there's no way that places like Duke, OSU and Alabama would have the success that they do w/o the athletic departments being allowed to function somewhat independently. thebigweave, Justin Kotter and JustWinBaby 3
