He wins a lot but he's mostly been at one school so he would've had an established system and probably just typical turnover. This year his team starts a bunch of seniors who followed him from D2. So does anyone here know if he typically plays upperclassmen who have been with him for a while and learned the system or is it a mix that includes underclassmen? At the P5 level, it would be very hard to get a bunch of talented recruits to come in and ride the bench for a year or two if it takes time to learn. Even 3* players. The NYT article has a portion interviewing a former PG of his who plays overseas now, I think he was 5'10. They were encouraging him to transfer up to Kansas or KSU, he had opportunities supposedly and decided to stay in D2 because he felt "those schools had their chance" and he was developing more with Ben than he would there. I think forming the roster will be the tough part when he gets started, but he will be able to retain his players. Can he use the portal effectively? Filling out the roster is definitely a huge question and a big risk this cycle since it will be his first without that core group. I am excited to see what he could do with our NIL budget and in HS recruiting. Stability. Winning. Good days ahead. (IMO) SlammySammy, JF87, cybergates and 6 others 8 1

The reason why we were tops in the NIL world was because we had former players and very wealthy alum contributing to Woodson. With McCollum, I those donations will be limited thebigweave 1

How about let Dolson do his job and not freak out after every tweet that comes out. Also if a guy is hired that you don't like nobody is making you watch IU play so either back the coach or don't watch anymore. I would really hate if we hired Beard but I would have to make a choice and I probably would still support the program. You’ll be writing Dolson lengthy emails once he hires McCollum and we’re three years into a rebuild heading nowhere. taco corp and thebigweave 2

Considering ex players got us in this mess. I don't really care. If he wins, they will come back. Just win. It's a huge jump, but he's proven he can coach and win. Will it work out at a higher level? Who knows. But if you are rolling the dice on a lower level guy... I'd roll them on McCollum more than the other guys. VFury, thebigweave, SlammySammy and 3 others 6

Popular Post Trish Posted March 13 Popular Post Posted March 13 Alright, I made a couple calls because I got worried for a second. This could be a nothing - burger. Goodman stirring the pot letting Iowa know Ben is available. I’m expecting Iowa to become open and Ben to be considered a very strong candidate for the job. Ben can coach, we see the results. I think we’re all worried about the risk after the whole Archie Miller experience. I think we have our guy, I don’t believe it’s Ben. HoosierDaddyK, HoosierSadaseci, IU Faithful and 10 others 10 3

A guy who has won D2 championships, been very selective about moving to D1, goes 30-3 and wins the MVC at Drake. Willing to pass on staying there, when he's been described as a grass isn't always greener type... Willing to pass on Iowa - supposedly his dream job... To come here. He WANTS to be here. Same want factor people pined over Chris Beard for. You have to like that about the guy. He will be easy to root for. Let's support him, IF he is the next coach (we'll see about that).
