IUc2016

NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

I wouldn’t mind IU take a look at Jaden Taylor from Butler. If he would be willing to accept a lesser role he could be a solid addition with 2 years left. Had stretches of good performances and against top teams like Tennessee, Marquette, Xavier.

Will be really surprised if they don’t take a swing at Nickel. Hunter was supposedly a big fan in HS and even though he barely played last year, every NC post of any kind that I’ve read expresses real disappointment that he’s leaving and blames the PT issue on Hubert’s unwillingness to play his bench, which is true.

I feel like Virginia tech is screaming for him. But he would be a nice potential replacement for Kopp.

Not saying it anything but a few pages back we had IndySportPartizen alluding to a freshman stud we might be after….look who likes that photo, old Conner himself.

Who is that a picture of? I wonder if it's just some people he happens to know since he's from here.

He did grow up a huge Michigan fan fwiw.

If Essegian hits the portal I’m a total believer.
Also, Gard is a turd.

I mean, I guess. He doesn’t defend well and doesn’t have great size. Don’t get me wrong, I like him. Does he play over Galloway or even Bates? I mean, It would give us a shooter that’s truly legit and there’s a lot of value in that. It’s going to be interesting. Portal Kombat as Rothstein likes to say.

Essegian averaged 12 ppg as a freshman. Heck yes Id take him if he wants to come. 88% free throw shooter too.

Bring in Essegian and a player like Jaden Taylor.

Our Guards would be deep

Johnson/Cupp

Galloway/Taylor/Gunn

Essegian/Bates/Newton

Banks

Reneau

Then find a Veteran stretch 4 and another Veteran big and this team has Top 25 potential and Top 5 in big ten.

Leaving roster spots open was a silly idea when Archie tried it and it is an even sillier one now. They need to build a full team this year and rebuild it again next year as necessary. Decent transfers contribute more than all but the best freshman so it is going to take a mix of transfers and talented incoming freshman every year.

Lotta folks including a head coach making $3M wanted “empty scholarship” over Jake Laravia, who turned into a 1st round pick within 3 years.

The more I think about the Miller era the less it makes sense

It makes even less sense now with the transfer portal being what it is now. Take a chance in a kid and if it doesn't work out they can be immediately eligible at a new school.

Here is an account of what Lumpkin posted on instagram of a text conversation with an assistant coach as well as a text conversation his mother had with Dixon.  It does only show their side of the story, FWIW.

Lumpkin's text is a very rambling one.  Would say he's not in a right state of mind at this point and mentions at the end wanting to kill himself.

https://twitter.com/StevenMJohnson_/status/1633585611197018114?s=20

Edit:  found what was missing from the tweet, which was the text that Lumpkin's mother received from Dixon prior to her response.  It stated:

“Vanessa thank you (for) taking the time to speak with us yesterday,” the text reads. “I am sorry that I was not able to get Eddie to reach the levels we had both hoped for. I understand that Eddie is entering the transfer portal … Wish him all the success. The first day for NCAA transfer portal is Monday March 13. We will expedite immediately. If there is anything we can do please let me know. Coach Dixon.”

He slapped a player while on the bench this season

Hope Eddie Lampkin gets the help that he obviously needs. Really enjoyed watching him last year in the postseason. Looked like a really high-energy player that was having a blast.

Not sure I want to be involved in that mess though.

FWIW, Lampkin has said that this has been a really tough year mentally for him.  His brother was killed last summer

He’s 6’4”. He’s not a great defender but he seems to compete. It’s not like our current crop of guards were all that great on defense this year.

Assuming he progresses as a sophomore he’d probably be an upgrade over a guy like Kopp. Kopp averaged about 2 two-pointers and 4 three-pointers attempted a game, whereas essigien average splits of 4/5.5 attempts a game. In other words, he’s a true shooter looking to find ways to get his shot.

They kind of trashed him in the paper up her over his shooting slump, but other than that I’m not sure why he’d leave. He obviously got tons of PT .
