Popular Post RaceToTheTop Posted April 9, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2019 For the record, I am in on Jalen Windham. Sophomore season....scored a game high 15 points in Ben Davis's state championship title game against on 4 of 8 shooting (including 3 threes) and 4 of 4 from in a game that featured Keion Brooks' Fort Wayne Northside Team (Brooks scored just 8 points on 3 of 10 shooting) and Ben Davis' future Michigan State Spartan junior Aaron Henry, who scored 12 points on 11 shots and 2 free throws. Windham also hit the three pointer that put Ben Davis up 49-46 in their 55-52 win. And this year as a senior he helped lead Ben Davis to an improbable state final run where they lost 60-55 to Carmel where Windham once again was the leading scorer (22 points) in a state title game. Seriously, how many times in the history of Indiana basketball has a player been the leading scorer in the state finals twice (not talking A or AA basketball, but either in one class basketball of two 4A finals)? He obviously has some intangibles that aren't showing up in the rankings. For one....the guy is a knock down free throw shooter. I'm not able to find all of his statistics, but from the numbers I have found (from maxpreps.com as well as his AAU stats from last summer): sophomore year (only 8 games listed): 7 of 8 from the line junior year at Ben Davis (in the 15 games listed) 33 of 38 from the line. senior year at Ben Davis (from the five games listed there -- the first five of the year -- plus the state title game where he was 13 of 14): 34 of 38 AAU ball (21 games): 32 of 36. So that's a 42 game sample where he shot 106 of 120 from the line (88%). Three point shooting: sophomore year (8 games listed): 9 of 27 junior year (15 games): 41 of 90 senior year (just five games -- don't have the state title game shooting listed): 11 of 26 AAU ball (21 games) 46 of 103 Total: 107 of 246 (43%) Two things stand out to me: 1. People saying that he isn't that good of a shooter because he only shot 36% from three need to look at what the bigger shows -- that the data as a group says he a 40+% shooter from deep and 2. One thing we know about guys that shoot an incredibly high free throw percentage: both the mechanics and work effort are there. 8bucks, wirenuts, Feathery and 9 others 9 3 Quote

To me, he’s a perfect redshirt candidate who could step into the rotation in ‘20 and be good for 4 yrs. That makes me less excited about the idea of taking both Leal and Galloway. A Windham with a year in the program is probably more ready to play than either of those kids. But, big but, I don’t think a ‘19 backcourt of only Rob, Green, Al and Franklin gets it done. I really want another guard who can take Rob’s back up minutes and who’s ready to play this year. Windham’s not that. Green and Al have proven they aren’t facilitators. So if there is only 1 scholarship and I have to choose between Windham and a guard who can play this year, I want the kid who can play. But if there ends up being another ride available, or there isn’t a better short term option, would take Windham, no problem. This is where I am as well. Fortunately I can see a world where we take Brunk, Windham and a traditional 1 yr Grad Transfer that can handle the ball next season. The three would (1) shore up the front & back country while providing Windham an opportunity to RS as well as (2) provide class balance for 2020 forward. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 In terms of not trusting DeVonte to be a facilitator....yes, he turns the ball over too much....but factually he averaged more assists per game than RP and played fewer minutes per game. If Rob isn't on the court (and sometimes when he is), DeVonte will be the primary ball handler. If we are going to bring in another guard, it needs to be a shooter first and ball handler second. He got up at least 1000 shots a day, every day of the summer. Had nothing to do with Crean. I had VO talk to my son about getting shots up in the summer. Crean may have helped in other areas but not in shooting, that was all VO putting in work every day of the summer. We need the whole team to live at Cook Hall this summer! Honkyman Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I don't see Windham playing meaningful minutes in 2019-2020. As pointed out, he is not physically ready and frankly he is not quick enough for the level of competition IU plays. If Windham isn't going to play next year, then why not save the scholarship for better guard prospects in the 2020 class? The enthusiasm for Windham is what often happens after a disappointing season when fans and sometimes coaches start grasping for solutions. DChoosier and Iugradman 2 Quote
Popular Post BGleas Posted April 10, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 10, 2019 I’m not usually a big grad transfer guy, but I think my preference would be Brunk, a grad transfer wing or guard shooter, and Windham. I don’t think IU needs two more freshmen right now. By getting a veteran guard/wing you then can even redshirt Windham. Feathery, BGVille Hoosierfan, BtownStrength and 7 others 10 Quote

RatpigHoosier Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I thought Spring was a time of renewed hope, a glorious rebirth after months of doldrums. Guess I was wrong. LamarCheeks Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Since the postseason player/coach chats have been wrapped up, we haven't heard a thing about the possibility of more transfers. I was under the impression that we might hear something last weekend, but nothing ... There have been dozens of players around the country announce they have entered the transfer portal. On our end, it's been Jake and Clifton. Is that it? Or is more to come? ... Just curious ... Quote
