Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 In two weeks, the N.C.A.A.’s primary legislative body, the Division I Council, will vote on a measure that could severely restrict graduate transfers. The proposed rule change would require that colleges accepting graduate transfers be docked a scholarship the next year if the transfer does not earn his secondary degree within a year. If passed, August 1, could be the effective date and would only apply to football and men's and women's basketball. This is coming from a former player but not my normal contact so not sure how connected they are anymore. Anyone know how to check the transfer portal? Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 There's multiple sites with transfers and this is just one of those. http://www.verbalcommits.com/transfers/2019 MemphisHoosier and Chris007 2 Quote
BH33 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 The official transfer portal is run through the NCAA and something that we can't see. 247 and Verbal Commits databases that are compiled after transfers are made official through releases or the media. Class of '66 Old Fart and Maedhros 1 1 Quote

The portal is interesting to look at. Almost anyone that’s ever been involved with a program and is transferring can be put on it. A ton of football walk-ons, and things like that from all levels. Thank god for filters lol. Chris007 1 Quote

To be put on the portal, they go to their compliance person (or whoever is the “NCAA liaison”, which is basically always compliance staff) and they take care of it. They don’t even have to go through coaches if they don’t want to. mamasa and bigrod 1 1 Quote
VO5 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Sorry if speculation is frowned upon here, but I would be shocked if the player in question isn’t Damezi. Just never seemed happy or invested, especially toward the end of the year. cljones1979 and Hoosierfan2017 2 Quote

There's no shame in being a backup for 4 years as long as you can produce when your number is called. Plus I've got a soft spot for him since he's from South Bend, I'll always root for him. Archie needs to create a culture and get rid of people who aren’t buying in. If he doesn’t, players go rogue and drag others down with them. We need a total reset and I think Archie knows it. IUrocker Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 If it is indeed more than one player just today that are being added to the list of transfers out, I’d like to think (and hope) that Archie has a plan set out with players he knows are going to take their spots, instead of it being a case of “well we got rid of who we wanted, so now what?” I’m leaning more towards the think than the hope. I just can’t see all these players being gone and Archie not have replacements in mind that are pretty much locked in to take over. Although it’s never really fun to see kids have to move elsewhere, it’s also exciting to see what Archie is able to create now that it appears he’s taken the bull by the horns and making a roster of his liking. pumpfake, Str8Hoosiers and jonz44 3 Quote

I want both of them to stay.....but only if Justin can become a positive force on the team in terms of attitude. If I was Archie, I would have had the end of year meeting with Justin and dad and laid down the law...NO TWITTER dad. Justin, work hard, and become a leader. Would prefer they evaluate better if that applies here but i will give the staff more slack if they send kids packing who can’t play with the effort needed Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Class of '66 Old Fart, Stuhoo, theriverpilot and 1 other 4 Quote

I thought with Fred's "Bill of Rights," once an athlete was on scholarship, as long as he or she remained in good academic standing, etc., the scholarship was guaranteed for four years -- and he or she couldn't be forced to leave? ... Or is it a matter of Archie and the staff just saying, "Look, you don't fit into what we're trying to do. You can stay, but it's likely you won't see a minute of playing time the rest of your career." And that fella figures he'd rather play than ride the pine, so he decides to transfer? Quote
