Ranger78 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I would change this thread topic to "How do we get Brad Stevens to IU?" His coming to IU might be as big as Coach Knight in the early 70's. He's the answer, so the administration needs to do everything possible to make it happen. Stevens to IU would make other teams really nervous. ...... I don't know if it's possible, but I hope everything is being done to try and make it happen. I like Tom Crean, but Coach Stevens is the answer to bringing back IU. Period. JSHoosier Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Did I miss something? What explosion? Is this regarding the way Crean acted during the 2nd half... sitting on the bench and not doing much actual coaching? :scratchhead: Is this really a bad thing when the coach is Crean? It's not exactly his strength. Str8Hoosiers and CrossboneIU22 2 Quote
HoosierAloha Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 This is beyond idiotic if true........I mean the guy signed him when everybody knew he was never going to be a B1G caliber player. No one to blame, but himself. I don't think it is, At least I hope to God it isn't. But what happens when things were promised to a recruit? I'm not saying Troy was promised a starting spot or X amount of minutes per game for his commitment but it makes one wonder when the coach wants more out of a player but doesn't bench him when he wants to send a message. (Yes I know Troy hasn't started a game and a second half but to drive the point home bench him until he gets it) Alford Bailey 1 Quote
HoosierAloha Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Everything about this team and program resembles Crean's personality. No stability in roster management, turnovers and frantic style of play, no adjustments to what the team is doing well or counter the opposing team, etc. I was okay with keeping Crean until we found the right coach but now I don't see that being the answer. I fear Crean doing more damage to the program before leaving than another average to above average coach taking over that isn't a home run hire. Just my $0.02. Alford Bailey Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Since this is the Fire Crean thread I'll spin it this way.... If he isn't spending enough time in the gym, if he isn't contributing enough to the team isn't it Crean's job to fix that or send him to the bench or something to get that point across? Exactly. Why has he started nearly every game since he has been at IU? Quote

AkronHoosier Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I know it's really really early and the standings are extremely tight right now but the Celtics are in 7th in the East. I would love to see them fall to the 8th seed and get swept by my Cavs in the first round and miss out on the small chance in the lottery. Also really rooting for the Nets to win some games and somehow make somthing happen to make that pick as low as possible for the C's. Anything that will help show BS the C's are gonna be stuck in the first round of the playoffs for awhile. Quote

Mix of vets who can't do much of anything anymore, young guys with really low ceilings, and they don't have own any drat picks until like 2050. But hey at least they got the chance to get destroyed by the Heat Quote

8bucks Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Is Wisconsin better than Virginia? I would not leave So to answer my own question I heard Jeff Goodman on ESPN say that this summer he asked TB how things were going. TB mentioned in his response that it was tough being far away from family. His parents (and inlaws possibly) live near Madison. He also said that he thought BS felt the same and would return to his home state soon. The part about BS I made up. BTOWN, Dalton26, Bobman1 and 2 others 5 Quote

I like Tom Crean, but Coach Stevens is the answer to bringing back IU. Period. We have a lot of work to do to get BS to IU. 1. Make Head Coaching Position available in the CLEANEST way possible. (I have a hard time believing that Brad and his family wouldn't consider the way Crean is treated during his exit when pondering being put in the same shoes.) 2. Get a feel for how to respectfully approach Stevens and his family. (When is he willing to lend his undivided attention to our pitch?) 3. Recruit his family as hard or harder than we recruit him. 4. Uncover every single objection they may have in reference to leaving Boston for Bloomington. (This is the most critical once meet is secured IMO.) 5. Overcome every single objection that is within our capabilities. (We can offer job security, significant increase in take home pay, less travel (according to his wife). If he has an unquenchable thirst to win at the NBA level and feels he has unfinished business, then there is absolutely nothing we can do to overcome that.) 6. Highlight the positives of bringing him to Indiana. (How many opportunities does one get to fulfill their childhood dreams? Resources are plentiful. Recruiting territory is fertile and familiar. Job isn't going anywhere. Build men out of boys. Close to family. Would instantly become a hero in his home state (Imagine that first Hoosier Hysteria!!.) Raising a banner in AH after 30 years of pain and suffering would have much further reaching effects than making an Eastern Conference/NBA Finals for the 54646460546046464th time in the C's history. Indiana Basketball needs his services far more desperately than the Celtics will ever need a coach.) 7. Close the damn deal. * Another, more strategic move would be to hire Barry Collier as AD, if Fred Glass were to leave his post. (I'm smoking crack right now.)
