  1. Here is where different bigs mentioned here that are still available would rank IU's roster. Note that currently IU is ranked 25 by Torvik Junjie Wang, San Francisco -- improves team, but no ranking change (25) Devin Williams, FAU -- up 3 spots (22) Jordan Burks, UCF -- up 3 spots (22) Aaron Bradshaw, Memphis -- up 3 spots (22) Musa Sagnia, NC State -- no improvement Steven Olowoniyi, Oregon State -- no improvement David Fuchs, San Francisco -- up 1 spot (24) can not check either Conrad Luczyski or Ja'Quay Randolph since they were D2 last year Okechukew Okeke, Albany -- no improvement Yaak Yaak, Oregon State -- no improvement Just for ***** and giggles, Allen Graves would move up IU 10 spots (15) Robert Miller, LSU -- up 3 spots (22) Austin Mauer, Seattle -- up 1 spot (24) Hamad Mousa, Cal Poly -- up 3 spots (22) I can check others if names are thrown out. IMO, Burks would be hard get -- he's coming off a season of 13.3 ppg and 4.8 rpg with a power 5 team. Allen Graves was just thrown in to see what could be done with unlimited $ for the next spot. The need for another big right now is to get someone in to make the floor higher mainly and raise the ceiling slightly. There HAS to be at least one more capable big in case of injury and there an argument that should obtain two more bigs to protect from injury. Y'all know I love Devin Williams case for a roster spot but I think he might be overpricing himself. Aaron Bradshaw would be a safe pick. Ja'Quay Randolph put up monster numbers at the D2 level but no idea how he translates; he did play three games against low D1 schools last season (Kennesaw State, Citadel, and South Carolina Upstate) and averaged 11.3 pts and 8.7 rebounds in those three games. Robert Miller put up 6 points and 4 rebounds in 20 mpg at LSU and is another safe pick.

  2. Went to HS about 10 mins from me and saw them a couple of times over a couple of years. That kid is not even a break the glass big. He is a “Oh God, everyone to the bomb shelter now” big. Strictly cannon fodder for the white jerseys. But he’s not unathletic. If he’s scholly #13 and you want to see what you’ve got after a year of getting his a$$ whooped by Sherrell that’s ok with me. He’s probably got a better chance than Acimovic because he moves better. And the stroke’s alright.

  3. I personally think 2 bigs. A 5 and a stretch 4 type. Then a combo guard that can handle some point duties if Burton can’t play the whole season. Sisley, Mustaf, Harris, Karvala, Manhertz, and to an extent Moody cover that wing spot. We don’t really have a traditional 4th guard unless that’s Harris/Moody. That’s not a lot of depth in a key position.

  4. And frankly, it makes no difference to me one way or the other and I'd wager it doesn't matter to his new employer. He's an adult and free to make his own choices and my respect and admiration for what he accomplished won't change one iota.

  6. I stand by what I said -- there are hundreds of players sitting at the end of bench because they haven't even shown they are capable of being a low major player. We already have three freshman whom we don't know if they will be in the rotation -- if we have developmental players at the 12 and 13 positions then what you are saying is that we potentially have only eight players that could be valued as rotational players,

  7. Personally I'd like a real backup/bench point to go w/a big, don't really have a feel for Lindsay's ability to run point Edit - I don't know much about his game on ball, have seen him classified as a PG and also just as a guard, averaged under 3 APG at Villanova, I take it a combo guard. I feel better about about where we are on ball after reading up on him, but still think we need another on ball guard - jmo

  16. FWIW, here was Baylor's schedule when they represented the US last year at the world games. I'm not sure if there will be less games since these are "America" Games. This seems like the first edition of the games in this format that I can tell.

  17. Have had my eye on Miller for a while. Strictly a PnR finisher and rim protector and a fouling machine, but given what they’d be looking for here that’s fine with me. And another guy with multiple years.

  19. This sounds like we we’re paying an awful lot of money for minds that should know better. Again, I hope this is not the case, but this is not serious roster construction. Manhurtz is nowhere ready physically to see anytime this year other than mop up.

  20. I believe Manhertz was originally a 26 and then reclassified to 27 before deciding to go back to his original 26.

  21. These days teams get 15 players; walk ons inclusive. They don’t have to give all 15 scholarships or money, but are allowed to and might as well.

  22. Simply put, if he is brought in to be a back up big instead of a developmental 12/13 scholly, there could not be a worse choice. Why would anyone expect a guy who literally could not get on the court with a middling low major team would all of a sudden be a guy who could be counted on to be a rotational big man on a high major.

  26. I think there are a lot of people on the campus today. Hoping one of them is at least 81 inches tall and can throw spherical objects into metal rings. Could be Ladarius Givan. He had a visit with UCF that started last Tuesday and also was to take a visit to IU and then maybe Seton Hall.

  30. There haven’t been major signings in the whole nation for the past three or four days. It seems to be a quiet time with most of the major players committed. We are in a much better position than expected based on who we have. Now it’s time to scheme them up and coach them up.

  31. We could do worse. I’ve heard him interviewed and he seems like a solid kid.

  32. Bradshaw is the perfect 17-18 mpg big this team needs off the bench. He’s a quality depth piece and good enough to the point where you won’t fall off a cliff if Samet or Sherrell get hurt. His lack of development over the course of his career is concerning, but at this stage he is what he is and that’s more than competent for the role we need to fill the most.

  33. 16-0, OL coach developing players into NFL potential. Seems like a good enough pitch to me. I'm biased though. Lol. Best of luck whatever this young man decides. Hope he chooses 812FB when it's all said and done.

  36. I’ve been wrong about Purdue before and CJ Cox is a really good basketball player, but what they will basically be doing next season is taking their second team from last season and promoting it to starter status.

  37. Devin Williams (6'10", FAU) is a player that would really fit for IU. After he entered the portal he received interest from Kentucky, Arizona, and Syracuse -- but so far has not signed anywhere. 7.5 ppg and 5.2 rpg in 24 mpg; defensively he's a big rim protector -- averaged 2.6 blocks per game.

  42. Playing devil's advocate, I think development is development whether you ever start or not. And Cig has proven he does that better than anybody, so recruits should want to come. If Alberto balls out this year, it will be another feather in his cap. Develop at IU and make money starting somewhere else if things don't work out isn't the worst thing in the world. With better incoming talent, hopefully guys with a few years of development in the system would be as good as any transfer we could pull in. Or not, becuase we're pulling in a top 3 transfer QB each year. I don't really see a major problem either way.

  43. One of these days we will lose a starting QB and somebody will get a chance to take the reins of a title contender. Kids will come for development and then if they don’t get that chance they will go to a Georgia Tech. With new kids wanting development coming in behind

  45. There was very little doubt of that from the get-go. He had no clue what he was in for with the college game and certainly with regard to recruiting. Thank the Almighty that NIL was a thing, otherwise, I wonder what kind of talent he could attract. But as DeVries told us, a team is much more than a collection of players. Fit is important, team chemistry is critical as well having a basic scheme of how he expects the team to play. Thankfully, that nightmare is over. We can hopefully forget what a disaster it was and focus on Coach DeVries and what appears to be a promising sophomore season.
