  1. I wouldn't have thought I'd ever post in the NHL thread, but here ya go! Submitted without my comment:

  2. There is a current QB on the IU team that just won the Heisman Trophy who also "bailed" on his team. It's not 2004 anymore. Getting injured in a bowl game can literally cost some of these guys 3 million dollars. I dont really blame anybody in line for a huge payday for sitting out.

  3. At this point, Cig has more collateral than maybe any coach, ever. He could bring in this dude to play QB and I’m just gonna say ok, brilliant move Cig.

  4. Sure is! Let's assume that the number is approximately what Cam Ward, last year's first quarterback selected, received: Cam Ward, the #1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, signed a 4-year, $48.75 million rookie contract with the Tennessee Titans, fully guaranteed, including a substantial $32.1 million signing bonus.

  6. Although Alberto hasn’t played a lot the staff sees him every day and I’m sure they already know whether or not they are comfortable handing him the keys next year. If they think he is the guy…GREAT. Otherwise Cig will undoubtedly bring in a sought after QB as competition (which is what I think will happen). I agree with you that Alberto will probably have a WTF moment but the last thing the staff should do is worry about making a move because of what his brother has done for us. It’s impossible to overstate what Fernando has meant to the program but when it comes to next seasons QB the staff should proceed as if Alberto’s last name is Jones. It would be really cool if he has the talent to be “the man” but the process shouldn’t be tilted because of who his brother is.

So far he's been really good at spotting transfer portal ball players. He called Daley last year. He's also a Ponds fan and has had him on his channel a few times.

BuffedInPrime is great. He's a independent thinker, which is rare in CFB media/scouting. He understands IUFB better than anyone else I've heard.

  10. I think we need to be careful going after every shiny object QB in the portal. The young studs will want to be able to trust the program if they commit out of HS. Cig can be selective. I mean if you're Albeto, you might have a WTF moment. He got you big Bro, which led to Heisman, which leads to Cignetti the QB whisperer, which leads to QBs knocking on the door. I hope at worst he's looking at a second development year and given the keys his JR year. :)

  15. The NCAA’s Administrative Committee has recommended a new 15-day window, from Jan. 2-16, during which college footballplayers can enter the transfer portal, the organization announced on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Also….. If a player is on a team playing in the championship (ie after the 16th) that player is given a 5 day window after the game to declare for the portal.

  16. I didn’t watch much TCU this year, but I did read somewhere along the way that their system is a bit of chuck it and f*** it style. I don’t know if that helps his case any, but it explains it a bit. I also saw (from Taylor Lehman) that he wasn’t far behind Fernando in passing rate out of RPO this season, so he’s at least somewhat familiar with our RPO-heavy style.

  18. My guess is they absolutely intended to have Fernando for 2 years, expecting him to then hand it off to Alberto his junior year (assuming Alberto continued developing). Fernando ended up ahead of schedule and is almost locked to be #1 QB drafted so they are caught in an awkward situation where they dont think Alberto is quite ready as a sophomore so they need to find somebody for next year.

  20. If he was Adams' contribution? So far it looks like Adams screwed up. Whoever had the primary hook into Wilkerson and Dorn should be the favored Assistant Coach evaluator.

  23. Bella Vista’s actual results are gonna be tied pretty heavily to what Sadler does. He plays with the ball a lot and hunts his 1st. Would imagine Nasir Anderson was a bad matchup for him. That kid’s got the body and athleticism of a 25yo man.

  26. I was just coming to post a similar thing...... It's so frustrating that players "bail" on a team at the end of the season, especially if they qualify for a bowl. It really cheapens the team and the bowl. I mean, these bowls are shelling out a decent amount of money for these teams to come play in their bowl. In the end some of these team's key players "pass" on thier team's invite and then look and play nothing like they did during the season. Every team goes into the season with hopes to make a bowl...... It just baffles me.

  27. I understand Hoover not wanting to get hurt but still don’t like that he has stated he will enter the portal on Jan 2 but will not play their late December Bowl game against USC. The portal, not the playoffs, is the primary reason the bowl games are completely meaningless. As an example Team X beats Team Y but who cares because Team X’s 5 best players sat out. Prior to the portal, and expanded playoffs, only the participant school’s fans really cared who won the Music City Bowl, as an example, but at least the fans knew their “real/complete team” beat the other “real/complete team”. The non-playoff bowls are pretty much a joke now.

  31. A guy would have to be nuts to not go to the next level with a fully guaranteed $50 mill in your pocket over 4 years with a 5th year option. With his finance degree in hand, he should be able to turn that into quite a bit more also. He can really add more to the foundation for MS research by going sooner also. It's a no brainer to go.

  32. Neither Bama or OK are up to the task against IU's team of destiny. The conference championship victory cured my IU PTSD (developed over generations of bad IU football) and now, "I'm a Believer" . . . cue the song.

  33. Should be really excellent watches. Prolific has a million guys, including top 10 ‘27 PG Nasir Anderson, who has an IU offer. Wheeler is always really good and this year they have Colben Landrew, who had an IU offer under the old staff and broke Painter’s heart by picking UConn, Jaron Saulsberry, who’s going to Ole Miss and a ‘27 PG named Kevin Savage with a PU offer.

  35. I'm not really arguing any of your points, but just some thoughts to shoot the sh1t on a Friday: Is DeBoer elite... I kinda think he is? He took over a 4-8 UW team and went 11-2 with an Alamo Bowl win and then 14-1 with the title game defeat. That's pretty good for UW. But was he a Penix merchant? Maybe. His first two Bama seasons they've been a little off and I'm not sure why, which could make a case he isn't elite. That's a fair point on defense. Interesting Bama is actually 8th in SP+ defense (OU is #3). Bama is a bit better defensively that perhaps some of us realize, me included, so we've got some risk with them too in terms of playing a very good D. I suppose one thing that can give us some optimism is Oregon's D is #5 in SP+, so while it's not easy we can put up points on a good defense if we're sharp. I prefer OU just because I worry about was DeBoer might scheme up offensively (he is good at that) and they're got more pop in the bat to score. The home playoff teams have had a pretty big edge with the mega home crowds and I tend to think OU wins. However, my sports gambling record is mid at best, so who knows. It will be a fun game to watch.

  36. I don’t think I’d label DeBoer as elite, either. Either way, Alabama lost to Oklahoma straight up once. I suspect Alabama takes the rematch, but I don’t see enough daylight between the two to call it one way or another. My preference is based on scheme and style. Our three closest games were against Iowa, PSU and OSU—all near elite defenses who could get to the QB and bog the game down into low-scoring affairs. Games like that are dangerous and favor the lesser team. Oklahoma (compared to Alabama) is more likely to force a game like that vs IU. With that said, I like our chances versus both and the outcome of the game isn’t all that important.

  39. (Before getting silly here, can we please stop hating every individual who accomplished good things at IU, made a good faith effort to improve our university/AD, and in the grand context of things was not a deliberately incompetent POS, like some other ADs and university presidents around the country? [see Penn State, Michigan right now, the Ivy leagues the last few years…] Fred Glass was not the worst thing to happen to our AD and was actually part of a continuum of our AD trending upwards from when it was truly stuck in the past as Greenspan took over). With that said…maybe I’m misremembering timelines, but I could have sworn that Tim Curley was Penn State’s AD while Fred Glass was ours…? Just for some perspective ;) And as we’re patting ourselves on the back while lambasting trivial aspects of our university, I’d like to throw my name into the conversation by stating that between undergrad and grad school, I had season tickets for six seasons of dreadful IUFB and went to every game. So “if everyone was like me,” then IUFB would’ve turned the corner from a fandom perspective decades ago and likely would’ve pulled better coaches much earlier. Just about every IU fan/alum (except me and probably 12 other posters on this site) is to blame for IUFB dogging it for decades, and when Cig came here and wanted to upgrade everything, from apparently our popcorn to toilets to our fans, he wasn’t talking about me! All I can say when looking at these young students and new fans enjoying the fruits of my apparent IUFB fan labor…

  40. Did not get to watch the Heisman show Saturday night. As much as I love 'Nando -- I'm a little disappointed with his reaction to winning. I don't think it was very sportsmanlike (although I thought Pavia deserved what he got): https://x.com/Gloc_Rivers/status/2000742232735780941?s=20

  41. Yes, Alberto is currently a RS FR. Competition is a staple for this staff. The other staple is production over potential. @Stuhoo already mentioned the staff has seen him every day for the last two years (not to mention, recruited him out of HS). They have also seen Tyler Cherry and Jacob Bell every day. Today, every QB in that room has a leg up (more experience with the system) on any transfer that comes in. Spending big on a transfer will tell the guys in the QB room all they need to know. Regardless, we'll find out soon enough. Also we'll more than likely see a 5 star recruit commit to IUFB in the very near future. In other words, the last two years of bringing in a transfer were a necessity to fill a hole but building a foundation is preferred. Coach Cig has said this on multiple occasions.
