  2. Bailey is one of the biggest questions for many posters coming off this game. The next meaningful competition we play is Marquette. He will match up with Ben Gold, 6'11 235 (Reed is 6'10 229) He played 25 mpg last year and averaged 7.4ppg 4.3rebs .9 assists .8 blocks. Shot 37% from 3 on 4 attempts a game. He will be the starter this year. This player profile from a Marquette site was an interesting read, some excerpts: Marquette added nobody in the portal. They lost their 3 leading scorers I think. So they will be playing freshmen and looking for guys to step up in new roles. Should be a fun early season match up.

    2025 IUFB Season

Here is a midweek, rah-rah, positive, quasi-propaganda post: - IU-UCLA was a ho-hum match-up in the world of CFB and still drew 3M viewers and was the T-5th most watched CFB game last weekend - I did an AI query, so it's probably not perfect, but it seems directionally correct to me when I do the rough math: Our total viewership across all FB games was ~11M in 2023 It increased to ~35M in 2024 2025 is still TBD, but we're more likely than not going to blow past 35M this season - The 2024 increase in viewership and exposure ("earned media") has been estimated to be worth $15-20M+ depending who you ask. As noted above, 2025 should be a decent to significant increase over 2024 depending how things go (knock on wood). Anyways, for anyone for who finds this stuff interesting, that's what the TV viewership increases have been and the value of that is in the eyes of media/marketing people. You can see how being good at football has quite the snowball effect.

  6. What does congress have to do with it? Coaches and teams (pro, college) negotiate the terms of the contracts. If both parties agree, why is the government involved. SMH.

  7. If Alberto has the arm talent I'd imagine he's our guy, though I've yet to see the necessary arm talent in his brief appearances so far. But the coaches see him every day and are well aware if he can hit the whole route tree. If Alberto can't be the guy then we should have our pick of the litter. But if he can? That's a major cost savings that can be spent in other places. And we're likely to need multiple portal offensive linemen for next year.

  11. From my outside perspective, I could see paying more for Diane as he's at a greater position of need with rare similar talent--and he is more likely to stay at IU multiple years--compared to Anthony Thompson.

If we are still undefeated, PSU will be playing the no1 and no2 teams back to back. Maybe OSU will take some of the fight out of them.

  16. .....just wondering about this,..... Does Coach Cignetti go out each year and pick up a new stud qb, with intentions to be the starter the next year? Somehow, I don't get the feeling he is going to settle on Alberto potentially competing to be next year's starting qb. I think he gives him chance, but best believe there's a qb with plans on going to the portal with IU in his sights. His approach has been paying off so far....

  17. with missing on Thompson, we are now able to add a few dollars to the pot for guys like Diane. Signs are pointing towards Karvala going with IU in the coming days. A class of Moody(guard), Karvala(small forward) and Diane(center) would be very good imo. Checks three positions off, can bring in other positions of need via transfer portal.

  21. Yeah, this has no chance of getting through Congress. The President appoints the commissioner of a new college sports association? That won't become political at all. These colleges don't have to fire these coaches and pay that amount of buyouts, but they do it when they know the price. It isn't like the actual university is actually paying the buyout anyway which this Congressman should know.

  22. Knee jerk reaction to the second article listed is the danger of tying it to tuition. Is my thinking to shallow or wouldn't this simply incentivize universities to increase tuition in order to increase what they can pay their coach??? Are they also going to cap tuition or is that already a thing???

  26. ^^^ And while it was just an exhibition game and we shouldn't take it for more than that, our guys did hang with a good Baylor team and did so with minimal sideline coaching in at least the closing minutes of the first half and game. a 15-win take from that seems really unwarranted, imo. To me, this is a team that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts -- and that's the opposite of a Woodson coached team.

  30. Rick Bozich - For all the talk about firing coaches and paying buyouts, AD Scott Woodward hired Jimbo Fisher at A&M and Brian Kelly at LSU and was nationally acclaimed because “he always gets his man.” Who has handed out two worse contracts than that? Maybe this is why Woodward isn't getting to make the next LSU hire.

  31. I live in Chicago and not far from the UC, and no there are not a lot of bars in the vicinity of it. But if you want to watch early an early game like the Colts, my guess is Cleo's on Chicago Ave, would have it on. It's a 10 minute walk from the UC, has decent food, and is a soccer bar so on the weekends they open early for premier league games. https://www.cleospub.com/ Might be worth checking in with them. I see some games on that day, so my hunch is they will be open. If you have any questions about other bars near the UC, let me know.

Bonus points to the (relatively) young fella for knowing who Jack Lambert the mean as hell HOF linebacker is. But this is the Jack Lambert that is the current first-in-line PSU primary backup QB:

I'm also more optimistic knowing that PSU's current QB Grunkenmeyer is an immobile RS freshman who has thrown 39 career passes, with two interceptions and a TD. And that's if he survives this week against OSU. Because his backup is Jaxon Smolik, a RS sophomore who has yet to throw a pass in a game. And Jaxon Smolik is questionable going forward with an arm injury. And therefore, PSU is likely an injury away from their QB being either: Bekkam Kritza, a true freshman 3* who has been hurt since training camp and may or may not be cleared to practice for the first time this week, or Jack Lambert, an unranked RS sophomore walk-on that has never taken a snap. Now, current PSU QB RS freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer is a talented (though non-running) young player. But if he is a flat-out disaster or goes down either during the OSU game or against us? They are really, really screwed to an extent seldom seen at the major college level.

So, I'm boarding the plane (in Tampa) to fly up for the UCLA game, fully decked out in IU gear. The old guy scanning boarding passes looks at me and says, "I got nothing against Indiana but your coach is a stick in the mud". I looked him dead in the eye and said, "He wins . . . google him". I haven't experienced that type comments from total strangers since Bob Knight was coaching at IU; I'll take that as a great sign of things to come.

  41. Watching the last 10 minutes of the BIG TEN GAME in 60 minutes on BTN. Normally I would not bother watching the ending of a Rutgers at PU game but seeing all the happy/excited PU fans and players, and knowing how they are ultimately going to pee on themselves, is must-see TV.

  44. I was at the game yesterday and would like to share a couple of observations: CDD AND the coaching staff were all very active. It's great to see Kenny Johnson up and directing. I don't think CDD has restricitons on the coaching staff like others in the past. Free Throws!!!!....finally Sisley looked like he didn't feel good yesterday. His feet looked like concrete and he looked lost. This was a great game for him to either get the nerves out or realize how big the game is now. We looked better defensively than what I thought we would. Baylor definitely had a height advantage but I thought we held our own. All the guards were dogs on D. Great to see. Our front court needs some work. I think we will see gradual improvement here but we will need to figure out rebounding. Our offense, even though it stalled on a couple of occassions looked much better. Things I saw that were in game adjustments were back cuts, very little one on one, and a nice little slip pass. Basketball IQ!!!! I didn't think any one looked lost and everyone knew their assignments. You can also tell that Tucker provides leadership on the court. I think what we lack in athleticism we will make up in speed and awareness. We will craft some wins that we aren't supposed to. I was pleasantly surprised by this team yesterday.
