I am excited for Indiana basketball. We have a lot to look forward to in a short period of time. Baylor on Sunday at 1pm. In 8 days on Nov 1: Karvala decision (reportedly IU lean) On Nov 9: Diane decision date... and Marquette in Chicago Rabby apparently thinks we're now in the mix with Diane. He's taken all his officials except for Houston this weekend, and rumor has it we are outbidding Houston. CDD and Kenny were in to see him right before his Houston trip and on the heels of his OV with us. Who knows if he can create a bidding war in the next two weeks and how that will go. BUT... putting on my cream and crimson glasses for a moment If the fall HS class ends up as PAM (108 overall / #15 CG), Karvala (47 overall / #19 SF) and Diane (17 overall / #1 C) that would be a hell of a class. And without overpaying for Thompson, Allmond, or Taylor who they prioritized. That would be an excellent job by the staff. And they'd likely have plenty of cash ready for the portal. IMO this season is going to be fun. Eager to see where things stand a year from now.5 points -

@HoosierDevils and @Hardwood83 - This came up in a couple of college basketball podcasts in the last month or two. I don't know the ins and outs, but essentially Big Ten schools (and the like) will be giving 80-ish percent of revenue share to football and slightly less than 20 percent to basketball (in most cases). However, even though the Big East won't have the same total dollars as the Big Ten, because they can give 80-some percent of their total revenue share to basketball it will equate to more basketball dollars. Essentially, 80-some perent of the small pie is more money than the not quite 20 prrcent of the larger pie.3 points

IU fans are so happy and confident in the team we don't even have to talk about the game. We all know we're going to win by 2+ TDs, so why talk about it? For basketball, we have to sort of talk ourselves into (or out of if you're a pessimist) the team, games, expectations. With IUFB it is known that we are dominant3 points -

Enough of this uncertainty, wariness, anxiety, dubitation, incertitude. We're listed in his final 3 and he's making an announcement on Nov. 1. So he announces on the 1st for IU. But wait, upon further review, he didn't have a formal IU offer? Bull excrement. I'm starting a thread for him regardless of the tremor, misdoubt, qualm, skepticism as to does he or doesn't he. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/class-of-2026-wing-vaughn-karvala-announces-finalists-and-announcement-date/ 247 On3 https://www.hudl.com/profile/18787117/Vaughn-Karvala https://www.insidethehall.com/2025/10/23/class-of-2026-four-star-wing-vaughn-karvala-to-announce-college-decision-on-saturday-november-1/ https://www.on3.com/rivals/news/vaughn-karvala-down-to-5-schools-cal-indiana-xavier/ https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/indiana-basketball-recruiting-national-top-50-class-of-2026-prospect-vaughn-karvala-sets-announcement-for-nov-1-258248409/ https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/class-of-2026-wing-vaughn-karvala-announces-finalists-and-announcement-date/ Vaughn Karvala '26 - Team Herro Date Gms Pts FGM FGA 3PM 3PA FTM FTA Reb Ast TO Stl Blk 4/25 L 19 7 17 0 1 5 6 9 0 2 1 0 4/26 W 17 6 10 5 7 0 0 6 0 0 0 2 4/27 W 9 4 10 0 4 1 3 4 0 4 0 1 5/16 W 14 5 15 4 12 0 0 8 2 3 2 2 5/17 W 14 5 8 1 3 3 5 3 0 1 1 1 5/17 W 12 4 11 2 9 2 2 3 3 1 0 1 5/18 L 18 6 10 4 7 2 4 6 0 1 2 2 5/23 W 16 6 14 4 9 0 0 3 1 3 0 2 5/24 L 14 5 14 3 11 1 1 1 0 3 1 1 5/26 W 24 7 14 4 10 6 6 4 1 1 1 1 7/10 L 5 2 11 0 7 1 2 3 1 6 0 1 7/11 L 10 2 7 1 4 5 8 3 0 2 2 0 7/12 L 28 9 20 5 12 5 8 1 1 3 2 1 7/13 W 16 4 10 2 5 6 7 7 2 3 0 3 7/14 L 18 4 14 2 10 8 9 4 2 3 1 4 7/15 W 14 5 10 2 5 2 2 4 0 1 0 1 7/15 L 0 0 7 0 3 0 0 1 1 2 1 2 Count/Avg 18 14.0 39% 33% 74% 4.1 0.8 2.3 0.8 1.62 points -

the FBI coach and player arrests and investigation - sports gambling
thebigweave and one other reacted to HoosierHoopster for a topic
Crazy, but ultimately a likely scenario when you go and allow big time sports betting. Chauncey Billups, currently HC of the Trail Blazers (ironically formerly often called the Jail Blazers), and player Terry Rozier, have been arrested in an FBI probe of sports gambling and rigged poker games, along with members of organized crime groups. Reportedly at least 30 people have been arrested. Billups apparently is named only in the poker operation. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/live-updates-nba-chauncey-billups-terry-rozier-arrested-gambling-rcna239312 and re the NCAA/college: The NCAA has been engaging in its own long-term gambling investigation, noting last month that it is seeking violations for 13 unnamed former men's basketball players, with the athletes coming from six different schools. Three players at Fresno State and San Jose State were permanently banned from the NCAA last month as part of the gambling probe. The NCAA has pushed states for more than a year to ban prop bets on college sports, mostly citing harassment of student-athletes, but is now pointing to the potential for athletes to manipulate stats. However, after previously cracking down on all betting, the association recently opened the door for students to bet on pro sports. https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/live/terry-rozier-chauncey-billups-arrested-as-part-of-sports-gambling-probe-live-updates-as-fbi-announces-details-134022201.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAKYfCYUOaUx2QEKNfuGBZMvGrAQvWF7383nqvLJpH_6rOaP6YPQTHDlQ-iu6eCdDV4LLG1ifIND9uy4wDouE7SPHit_eRNU3mRnIhOekeacoj5cAAt-adoHL8UybPn28qZF6iqnkwQqOBfUxUKxxcWJEPESvvTShysmbx64vmDMI I'm sorry, it's freaking stupid to permit gambling/betting on college games, it spurs point shaving and other illegal gambling / betting activity. This from today's NYT: A pair of indictments unsealed in Brooklyn federal court on Thursday cast a pall over professional basketball, describing separate schemes in which three current and former N.B.A. players and coaches worked with other defendants to defraud gamblers and online betting firms out of millions of dollars. One case accused an N.B.A. player and a former coach of trading inside information on a series of games to win hundreds of thousands of dollars of bets with sports betting companies. The other charged a well-known head coach, Chauncey Billups, with participating in a series of rigged poker games organized by Mafia families that cheated unwitting victims out of at least $7 million. Taken together, the two indictments, involving more than 30 defendants, will compel the league to confront questions about how far the misconduct has spread, and whether those accused of financial crimes affected the outcomes of games. The first indictment accused six defendants, including Terry Rozier, a guard for the Miami Heat, and Damon Jones, a former player and coach, of trading on inside information available to players and coaches to allow a network of conspirators to place winning bets on their games. Kash Patel, the F.B.I. director, called it the “insider trading saga for the N.B.A.” https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10/23/nyregion/nba-illegal-gambling-arrests2 points -

That is definitely true for schools like UConn versus basically anybody, and perhaps for comparing Villanova to Northwestern but not true for a comparison of Xavier to IU. There's a massive within conference variation as well. Don't get me wrong, I agree that a middle of the pack Big East school (or bball first and no football) is in better position than a middle of the pack power conference (esp. ACC) school but don't think that's the case for mid-tier Big East to top-tier Big 10. Certainly the difference there is small enough that is easily offset by difference in NIL resources...even if the Big 10 school's NIL isn't earth shattering.2 points -

FWIW IU’s athletic dept revenue was around $150M (that number excludes loans from IU). That was latest reported number, which was for the fiscal year ended June 2024, so pre-FB improvement. I think IU is around $4M rev share + $6M NIL = $10M for MBB. Just the ballpark number thrown around. So the Big East schools not focused on FB getting $6-8M+ of the rev share to MBB is getting kinda close to what a lot of P4 FB schools like us are doing. This is driving up player cost quite a bit. Edit: @HoosierDevils I see your update and what you meant with the $105M number. Makes sense.2 points -

For anyone interested in going but didn’t like the high ticket face values, I’m seeing some $13 to $16 per ticket (includes fees) for the bottom two rows of the top deck hit the secondary market on SeatGeek. And really, the crowd for this will be so sparse I’m sure you’ll be able to move around. Not sure how long they’ll last, but that’s a better deal than the current $44 cheapest on Ticketmaster, who is primary ticket seller for this event.1 point -
