Jerome, TJD, and Damezi walked past our tailgate this past weekend...I’m no doctor but based on my analysis of Jerome walking, he seemed to be taking steps of somebody who has been cleared for full contact! Says that he and his wife are more than happy with the money they're making and tells U.Va. to spend the money on his assistants or on other athletic programs. ... 10. Team is off to a great start. Let's hope the wheels don't fall off. IU received 13 votes in the latest AVCA Coaches poll. Indiana hasn’t been ranked since 2010. In two weekends when Big Ten play starts, Hoosiers will play two (No. 7 Minnesota, No. 9 Wisconsin) top 10 teams to open conference play.

  15. Our conference doesn't help but I don't buy that it's a bigger hindrance than some are making it out to be. Last season we were 0-3 against the Big Ten West, prior season we were 1-2, even in the 6 win bowl season prior we were 1-2. Big Ten East alignment doesn't help at all, but we don't beat the Big Ten West either. EDIT: Edited to make our records correct, 1-2 not 1-3. Point stands, over last 9 BT West games we're 2-7.

  18. Actually, it's a very apt comparison. Allen did absolutely nothing to be given the keys to a B1G program. Nothing. He'd been at IU for all of one season ... Likewise, Buckley wouldn't have done anything to deserve the gig.

  25. Lander may or may not end up in Bloomington. But your analysis strikes me as off. Phinisee and Lander would have exactly zero problem playing together defensively, unless you think that Lander is just going to be a disinterested defender. But he’s already a long 6’3”, and apparently still growing, with flat out elite movement skills. Neither he nor Phinisee is defensively system limited in any way. I would foresee a Sr Phinisee/Fr Lander backcourt providing exceptional ball pressure and being highly disruptive creating turnovers and pushing pace. And any moron could scheme them offensively. If he ends up elsewhere, he ends up elsewhere. But system and personnel fit don’t strike me as the slightest issues.

From hereon forward, the lowest 2 scores will be taken off your total which makes for a strange looking overall leaderboard this week. Basically, its your single best score in the 1st 3 games. 31. He’s a talented kid. And a fully healthy and engaged Hunter is going to help a team that is going to struggle offensively. But if the blood clot rumors were true, it will have to be closely monitored for the rest of his playing career. Chris Bosh was older, but yet it is still something that can end your career like it did his. And that’s definitely not something I want to see for him.

His hiring of Tom Allen would've been the same thing as firing Tom Crean, then making Tim Buckley the head coach. That he didn't even search for a coach remains very exasperating -- at least to me. Or since the timing of Wilson's dismissal wasn't great, why not name Allen the interim coach and then conduct a thorough, national search?

You're correct, IMO. I'm not an expert or rabid follower of college football, but I've said for years that pouring money into facilities without ever getting serious about hiring a good coach is a recipe for failure. I've heard the comments that no high profile coach would come to IU, and I get that. I also understand that the longer we wallow in sub-mediocrity it becomes even more unlikely. But, we've gone after guys that had no record of accomplishment - both inexperienced and veteran. Bill Mallory was the best we had and we fired him. Hoepner looked to be on track to potentially being an great coach, but he was tragically taken. I just can't accept the notion that we can't find a very good coach while almost every other school has done it at one period or another over the last 30 years. The hiring of Tom Allen was, IMO, the epitome of feeble, lazy, and uninspired program management. Nothing against the coach, but good Lord at least FG could have made an effort to upgrade the head coach position by conducting a thorough search. It's this ongoing lack of seriousness from the AD office (what 3 or 4 who've held that office) that results in me being only a very casual fan of IU football.

  38. Just like you’re ignoring the sources that don’t fit your narrative. The Indystar article is from July. It includes quotes from Lander himself. You can choose to believe the reporter didn’t bother asking Lander about his height if you want to, but I’m not buying it. Anyway, I’ve said all I have to say on this topic. Lander will have top programs promising him PT and IU will be offering him an opportunity to split PT. I’m not getting my hopes up.

  41. 2 other guys? Lander would get Durham’s minutes right now. Don’t get me wrong, I like watching Durham and appreciate his effort, but he’s not what I would call a particularly good player. The fact that Al would be a senior and would have to compete with a freshman for minutes pretty much says it all. Lander’s only competition for minutes would be Phinisee, and I have a feeling that’ll be the primary reason we don’t land him. Miller clearly wants height and length on the floor and a lineup featuring Phinisee/Lander is a defensive liability in his system. It’ll be one or the other most of the time and I have a hard time seeing Lander take the lead in that battle.

  45. Sorry that I want IU to be good at sports, I guess. I don't want to root for another school. I want to root for IU. I want IU to be good. Over the last decade, IU has been anything but good. IU football hasn't had a winning record in 11 seasons, and IU basketball has missed the tournament in 6 of the last 10 years. That is an absolute failure that has happened under the watch of your guy Fred Glass. Sure, IU football has always sucked. Doesn't mean they have to suck moving forward. Northwestern really sucked, until they didn't. Now they're a solid program. You can complain about us being in the tougher division, but we don't win when we play teams in the Big 10 West either. IU is a school that has a bad football program and an average basketball program right now. Not sure why people think we should be ok with that or why people get mad at Iugradman for pointing that out. Get mad at the people causing this to happen, instead.

  48. From a recent Archie interview: What is Jerome Hunter’s health status? “Jerome had a very good summer and is progressing. He will continue to do more. He’s continued his rehabilitation. He elevated himself in terms of his activity level. He did a good job with his strength and conditioning and it was great to have him back. He was someone that would have really been able to help us last season.”
