Miami, Georgia, and IU haven’t beaten any ranked teams. IU’s played the least P4 schools out of all those teams. That’s why we sit where we do vis-a-vis everyone else. It’s a week 5 poll. After the last three years I’d guess there’s some SEC bias but NW and Nebraska haven’t beaten anyone outside of bad B1G teams and Wisconsin got housed by ND. Minny got throttled by Miss St. UCLA scheduled some traditional teams and won, and they made the top 25. I guess if you want credibility with the AP early you have to at least schedule other traditional P4 noncon teams. Or be Miami. RoadRage 1 Quote

Any other school with IU’s resume dating back to last season would be #1. If you want to say last year’s rankings shouldn’t play a part, fine. The hell has notre dame done to be #3 then? Mediocre wins over North Carolina and MSU? We’ll simply never get any love in the polls. Not as long as our jerseys say Indiana across the front. Indiana vs. Everyone. It's ok... let 'em keep dissing us... come playoff time we'll show 'em. Hoosierfan2017 and IUHoosierJoe 2 Quote

Georgia’s resume is worse. Miami’s resume is the same or worse. Yet, IU can’t make an argument to jump them because our resume is worse yet. Alabama and Texas are the only teams who have a good win and no losses. Arguably Alabama is being punished for last year’s results—despite their name—because they’ve pounded everyone including a live Miss St on the road. Critobol teams always drop a dumb game. ND isn’t above that either. If we beat Ohio State we’ll be the B1G that gets a bye most likely, even if we drop one. That’s all that really matters. Feasting on bad P4 schools is Notre Dame’s bread and butter. Give IU that resume and no one is calling it an impressive resume. The pollsters just do whatever they want and it’s thinly tethered to reality at best. Mississippi State gets throttled at home by 33 and drops 1 spot. Iowa loses by 17 at home to a higher ranked team than Alabama and drops 6 spots. Northwestern and Nebraska would both be ranked if they were SEC teams. So would Duke. Pittsburgh would be much higher than 25 if it was a SEC team. The pollsters control the “that team hasn’t played anyone” narrative by jamming the preseason rankings with SEC teams and then barely dropping them when they lose because “the SEC is such a gauntlet.” IUHoosierJoe, DChoosier, Jeff Flabjohns and 3 others 6 Quote

But it mostly doesn’t matter. The AP is made up voters all over the country, so I’m not sure what the concern is. You could post the coaches poll. It has roughly the same teams but IU is higher, MSU dropped more, and Duke is in. But they have Kentucky in and a total of 10 SEC teams…lol. I guess the conspiracy runs deep. Bottom line: lots of parity this this year and the committee isn’t going to let 5 SEC teams in to the B1G’s 3 barring something wild happening. The AP poll is irrelevant. Quote

Everything I have heard is the coaches don’t actually fill out their ballots it’s some student GA that is told to not make waves. Hence why it’s always pretty close to the AP poll Stuhoo 1 Quote

And sadly the CFP looks at the rankings. If IU, Georgia and Miami/Notre Dame go undefeated. We will be the 3 seed despite by end of season our schedule trouncing Notre Dame and Miami. Quote
