We’re close to being really pretty darn good… very frustrating we can’t quite get the offense to click.

We’ve had close wins that went our way.  Eventually it goes against ya.

Fingers crossed we figure it out.

Agreed. Watching these other teams shoot themselves in the foot with stupid decisions makes one really appreciate Cig. People get mad at us establishing the run, but Cig won’t let the team do anything to beat ourselves. If one or two guys make a play or don’t turn it over, we win that yesterday.

Interestingly our national title odds slightly improved after yesterday.  Kinda funny.

To be clear I’m not thinking natty right now.  Just hoping we get can 10-20% more out of Hoover and maybe Khobie can jumpstart our run game.  I don’t know how this season plays out.

Things are certainly wide open in CFB this year.

Yeah, let's try to mix in the short pass game a little more also. Hoover doesn't have to make every play that far down field. Marsh and Chandler can get some YAC given a chance.

Really don’t understand Georgia not dropping out of the top 5. They lost at home to an unranked Auburn. We lost by a toe out of bounds and fell out of the top 5 to a ranked opponent. The SEC bias is really insane.

I think they're actually showing us more respect by only dropping us 1 spot. I saw comments from IU fans yesterday who were convinced we'd be out of the top 10.

Morning all! How's everyone feeling after that Saturday massacre? Personally, I'm good here on my end. I guess having a competent coaching staff with a winning culture does that to you.

I'm feeling like we did everything possible to give that game away and still wound up a hair away from beating Ohio State. Would've been an all time classic comeback.

If the staff can figure out a way of scheming around some of Hoover's shortcomings I feel like we can be a threat. That's a big if though.

The rest of the team is so competent and prepared we should be able to finish the season strong and be a tough out in the playoffs.

I hear that. I'd also like to add the IUFB D is so good. So so good.  I'm enjoying my coffee knowing IUFB as a program is in such good shape regardless whatever happens the remainder of the season.

All good points.  I do feel like Hoover is PART of the problem but if we could actually run the ball, I think his problems may work themselves out.

Was his throw perfect to end that game? No.  But as a receiver Marsh has to have some awareness and come down in bounds with a foot there.  He just did not think about what he was doing.  If it was Becker, that's a TD.  I was thinking about some of the differences in Cig's past teams and this one.  These transfers just don't seem to be as detailed, and the fundamentals don't seem as sound.  Missing tackles, special teams which is normally a strength has hurt us this year, and Josh missing throws not reading the RPO correctly at times.  I wonder if it's a lack of team leadership too.  The guys we lost last year had strong voices.  We always knew losing them would be a loss, but I think we are seeing just how much.

Regardless we were a foot away from winning that game probably playing the worst game of the season.  OSU can be beat.  If not for Marsh, we lose at Nebraska.  Defense is rounding into top form.  This team has all the tools to win, just need to figure out how to get it all to come together.  Really want to see them rebound in a big way this weekend at Michigan.

Yeah, I don't think Hoover is an issue at all to be honest. The "issue", for me at least, is the run game over the last two weeks.

Hoover is not Mendoza. He's more on par with Rourke. Every QB will be different but we have to keep in mind that Mendoza was something very special that even the coaching staff never experienced.

The reason folks are talking about Hoover's play this past two weekends is because both games called for him to do Mendoza type things. In both games, there were multiple things you can point to that changes the outcome, better or worse. For example, against O$U, if Nico hits that 32 yard attempt, Hoover doesn't need to make that deep throw and we most likely go into OT. And honestly, there's probably something you can find on just about every single play in both games that changes the outcome. Close games are like that.

Ehh.. I think Rourke, even with the torn ACL and thumb, clears Hoover. And I don’t think it’s particularly close. This squad with Rourke would be the national title favorite. Hoover has had the same issues all season. He can’t throw the ball accurately down field at all. He regularly under throws deep balls. There have been many passes to Becker that would be walk in touchdowns if he could hit him in stride. He regularly overthrows the 15-20 yard balls. His passes are often awkwardly placed where receivers have to adjust. His vision isn’t good either. He misses a lot of open guys. He hasn’t thrown any interceptions, but that’s in part because so many of his passes aren’t catchable by anyone. I recognize that before Cig, we very rarely had a QB better than Hoover, but his play has been a far cry from what we’ve experienced the two prior years.
