Was caught smoking weed out back and I think they accused him of dealing near a school. Not sure dealing was confirmed. He later robbed someone and got charged for it all, ultimately getting sentenced to 15 years.

I remember watching him his Junior year, playing in the barnstorming tour with Gordon, Crawford, Holman, Ellis, Thomas and McGee. I was looking forward to him wearing the candy stripes, but am very glad his transgressions occurred before getting to Bloomington

Notes from his media scrum interview at NBPA Camp today:

• Brooks Sr. and Schilling are keeping in touch.
• Archie is communicating directly with Jr.
• Really likes IU now; didn't have a relationship with previous staff
• Archie is coming in "hard and strong"; addressed changing the relationship he had with the old staff; making him a priority
• Likes the direction IU and Archie are going
• Still really likes MSU as well
• Noted UCLA as a new challenger in his recruitment; took an unofficial after the EYBL session in LA

I want this kid at IU bad. Probably more so than any other recruit in the last 5 years or so.

• Cole Swider's from the east coast. His dream school is Duke.
• Keion Brooks is from Indiana. His dream school is Indiana.

If Crean was connecting with kids, parents and coaches in-state, he would have done the same thing.

Indiana: “The communication has been pretty good between them and my dad. They are really trying to keep in touch with me and make a push.

“I really like IU. I really didn’t have a relationship before but now, Archie (Miller) came in hard and strong, and I really like the direction that he is taking the program in.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Brooks will finish out his junior summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with the Spiece Indy Heat bunch.

No visits are set and a commitment is not expected for a while now but look for some of the top programs, both close to home and on the national scale, to throw a good amount of attention into his recruitment.

RIVALS' REACTION

Brooks is one of the better forward prospects in the 2019 class. Indiana's new coaching staff has already made him a priority.

The majority of the Big Ten and a number of other high-profile programs will be in the thick of it until the very end, yet the attention that Miller has given to Brooks could make the Hoosiers the favorite at this point.

Oh they definitely are just making educated guesses. It was more in jest because it seems like any article where a recruit talks about Indiana, we still don't get mentioned as one of the leaders at the end.

Right. I would have guessed Southern Illinois would have been the favorite followed by not IU.

I agree with that perception. Living up here around Fort Wayne the feeling is he is going to end up at IU. It's just funny with Rivals. I think that is the first time in five years they guestimated we get a kid.

It's like they don't want to name a leader but that's kind of their thing. They kind of, sort of, if they have to name a leader it could possibly, maybe be IU.
