TheWatShot Posted September 28, 2025 Posted September 28, 2025 Just went back and watched highlights. On Iowa's touchdown near the end of the half, the officials waited 8 seconds after Gronowski went down before finally signaling touchdown. The clock stopped at 22 seconds, then inexplicably ran down to 17. Amazing we were still able to score there. Napleshoosier, LIHoosier and MemphisHoosier 3 Quote
Napleshoosier Posted September 28, 2025 Posted September 28, 2025 5-0. But we got a whole lot to figure out in the next two weeks! That was ugly! Quote

The clock operator was trying to home cook us all game and the officials weren’t setting them straight. I fully get why Cig was mad. Quote

No. Are they as bad as they looked today? No. Somewhere in between. They aren't elite Top 5 level, but around top 10. During and immediately after the game I was pissed off. Yes, it's a 'tough enviroment' and Iowa is sound on defense, but that was ugly. If their QB doesn't get hurt, they win. If their dependable kicker doesn't pull a very makable FG, they win.....But with a little time to reflect, this is still IU football and any win should be celebrated. Shows how far we have come when fans are “pissed” after beating Iowa, at Iowa on their homecoming weekend. :) It was a tough break for them to lose their QB but I don’t know about them definitely winning if he played the whole game. They didn’t exactly pile up the points while he played. If their kicker made the field goal (shocking that he missed) we still would have had the same amount of time for the final drive. Would the added pressure of being behind impact us, maybe but it was a beautiful thing to see an IU team successfully mount a TD drive, on the road with the game on the line. hoosierbgh, hoosierfan6157, Home Jersey and 6 others 9 Quote
Popular Post Stuhoo Posted September 28, 2025 Popular Post Posted September 28, 2025 Iowa’s offensive line came into this game with the single best run blocking grade-out in the country through four weeks. During the game, they graded out the worst on run blocking that they have in over two years for a game. The Hawkeyes averaged negative .2 yards before contact per carry. Our front seven is amazing. Part of my “we really weren’t bad today” post from yesterday. Everyone was surprised that Gronowski was hitting all these passes early in the game, but it was clear that making him hit those easy throws within our zone coverage was exactly what we wanted. His high 1st half completion percentage ended up being completely meaningless. Haines would much rather make him hit those than worry about covering 5-8 yard hitches and let them start gashing us on the ground. Once they crossed midfield we had our way with them. Yet another masterclass from Haines and the big fellas. Stuhoo, MemphisHoosier, Pagoda and 5 others 8 Quote
HoosierHoopster Posted September 28, 2025 Posted September 28, 2025 SIAP - always nice to see IU FB and Mendoza on front page of ESPN, even if it's an 'apology' https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46408660/indiana-qb-mendoza-sorry-cooked-spreads-late-safety Quote
RoadRage Posted September 28, 2025 Posted September 28, 2025 There were a lot of people on X demanding an investigation into point shaving after that safety prevented IU from getting the point spread....no way there was anything nefarious there, but I am not sure why Fernando ran all the way to the end zone, time had run out by the time he was at the 20! The whole ending to that game was bizarre. Iowa had all three TOs left, so we were trying to kill as much clock as possible before Nando would take a knee. But the officials kept blowing the play dead before he ever went down. Since it was fourth down and there were still 7 seconds left, I guess he wanted to make 100% sure the clock would run out and Iowa couldn't get the ball. Maybe Cigs told him to do that. He was PO'd about the way they kept blowing those plays dead so early. I never did see an explanation for it. RoadRage and 8bucks 2 Quote
iu2win Posted September 29, 2025 Posted September 29, 2025 Cig TOLD Mendoza to run to and yes, through the end zone. Mendoza did what he was told to do. Hope there is some sort of explanation from the league regarding the reason the refs stopped the clock despite Mendoza having not yet put his knee down or having been touched by a defender. Quote

You get a backwards step or two and the refs then blow it dead regardless. If you want to kill clock, get in a regular formation and run around like an idiot and chuck it out of bounds I guess. thebigweave, Class of '66 Old Fart, WayneFleekHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote

It's a BS rule, if, in fact, that is the rule. And Ferentz is a d!ck for using his time outs in that situation. There's no chance of a fumbled snap in that scenario. The game was lost... just own it like a man. AKHoosier and steubenhoosier 2 Quote

I get why we did what we did, but it’s a really good way to get your QB blasted and/or start a fight. And as far as Ferentz, he put us in a really uncomfortable situation that could’ve easily ended with Fernando losing the ball while running back to take the safety. Quote
