My concern with McCollum is he hasn't had longer term success at the D1 level.  What he did D2 is impressive.  And this year at Drake certainly points him in the right direction.  But it's only one year.  No way is he ready to enter the chit show that has been IU basketball the past several years.

Need a guy that can deal with rebuilding a dysfunctional roster (and can come in a recruit IU level players right away), a divided fan base, divided former players (with some "banned" from the program), the clownshow that is the Hysterics (and their fans), the politics to maintain a high level NIL, etc., etc.

DeVries has is work cut out for him.  I'm 100% behind him.

Agree. This is McCollum's first season ever in D1. Otherwise his entire playing, assistant, head coach career was in D2.

DeVries played D1 and was a longtime assistant under Altman and McDermott. Multiple trips to NCAA tournament as a head coach. One year experience in a big conference. I think there's less risk of the non-basketball parts of the IU job being "too big" for DeVries.

I've liked basically everything I've watched from DDV's teams but there's this one thing. Every year they are good for at minimum 1 or 2 absolute **** kickings. I'm talking 25-30 pt losses. Seems odd and I'm not real sure why.

Some of the comments out there are insane

This confirms Tucker faked injury, DeVries threw games, the inbound plays where bad, offense non-existent, and Colorado wasn’t as goood as Small
So he  threw games and still ended up 19-13, sounds great!  And Tucker DeVries underwent shoulder surgery for a fake injury so his dad could take another job that he was the backup plan for.

They all be drinking cases of this in WV.

Only 1 or 2? That will be an improvement

Lol I get it. I expect a random wtf loss every once in a while and they are OK as long as they aren't trends.

Not to make this about Woodson, but the way he conducted himself was a huge reason why the fanbase went so hard against him. At the end of the day you have to win, but like in any setting, people will have more patience and grace for someone they like.

He was living on fumes from his playing days to win over the fan base.

Yeah, but we are already used to that......so we're ready for it! :)

I noticed that too. I was going to make a reference about not worrying about a beatings anymore, but before I posted it, I checked his records. Looks like it’s gonna happen still.

I'm not trying to be negative and I'm happy with the hire but they are really, really bad beatings. And seemingly from teams that don't make sense sometimes.

I can remember some of Knights teams taking some *** whooping's back in the day.  It seemed like some of them where on purpose at times to let them know if they don't listen and do what they want this is the outcome.  Teaching moment so to speak.

Not sure that is what this is but sometimes a good whooping opens your eyes to make you better.

I mean I have two arguments to that… 1. His first team is Drake so that’s bound to happen. 2. He was without his best two players in a power 4 schools that also is bound to happen.

I'd say Small was his best player... his 2nd and 3rd best.
