I can't remember being this angry after a loss.
I don't dislike the players.  It would be one thing is the talent wasn't there.  I've been through the start of the Crean years and had no trouble getting behind those teams.  But to see players who thrived elsewhere actively becoming worse players says everything you need to know.

Indeed. It’s entirely frustrating to watch. This team had reasonably high expectations but most of the country still knew Woody would hold them back. I thought we’d be about TJD/JHS year level good and we aren’t even that yet with a top 5, top 10 roster on paper. Crazy.

This is exactly right. And Bates and Banks lighting it up at their new stops. The ones who aren’t having success were simply scouting misses. This staff is just brutal

With Woodson at the helm, our ceiling is 2nd or third in the B10 with a guaranteed loss in the BTT and one or two wins in the NCAAT.

That's the ceiling - it should be our minimum expectation.

Those must be vaulted ceilings, because we have about as much chance at reaching that as I do replacing the ceiling fan on my 20-footer without a ladder.

Even if Woodson had the fab 5 2.0 he would bring them to enough games so under prepared we would be lucky to finish 5. Probably win a few games in a row then get crushed by 30 on the road on repeat. That's by far been his biggest failure was consistently bringing a competitive team. This year it seems at some point during every game we lapse. Let's not forget this team trailed at the half against a team it nearly beat by 40 points!

From where I sit, that seems awfully optimistic...

Honestly, Crean is strikingly better than Woodson.
If I could roll back the clock and just keep Crean avoiding the last 8 years I’d do it in a heartbeat

Yep. We’d have a couple more Big Ten conference titles. A couple more Sweet Sixteens.

To succeed at Indiana you have to be able to quickly connect with folks. Donors and recruits. Build long term relationships with big donors and local coaching and work your @$$ off.

Crean Struggled with the long term relationships.  Archie struggled with all relationships short and long term.  And Woodson isn’t doing any of them.

These were the shots IU took after pulling within one at 67-68:

  • Miss three pointer by Tucker
  • Missed jumper by Galloway
  • Missed three pointer by Rice
  • Missed tip in by Tucker (this was basically a rebound tip attempt)
  • Missed three pointer by Galloway
  • Missed three pointer by Goode
  • Missed jumper by Reneau
  • Missed three pointer by Goode
  • Missed three pointer by Galloway
  • Missed three pointer by Reneau
  • Missed jumper by Rices
  • Missed jumper by Mgbako

I understand that you are going to miss some threes, even open ones.  But that's an 0 for seven from deep including one from Tucker and one from Reneau and not a single one from Mgbako who was on the bench.  The other five shots....mid range jumpers and one tip in attempt that was simply trying to get it back up at the basket on a tight rebound.

No shots from Ballo.  No inside shots from Reneau.  No shots from Mgbako when it mattered because he was on the bench.  One ill advised three was the only shot taken by our three leading scorers fro the season.

I can live with some missed threes because we do need to shoot them but that shot selection is baffling.

But at least Galloway isn't sitting next to Leal in the locker room.

Woody is paying for his relationships.

Its roughly equivalent to a sad guy who spends thousands on high end escorts just to cry in the hotel room while they hold him.

They were recently sitting next to each other at St. Elmo’s. Luckily the King doesn’t know how to use social media, so he won’t see it.

Granted it was due to foul trouble, but our first half rotations were great. You could take that and dial back some poor shot selection and we'd out talent our way to 12-13 conference wins. But the second half he went to Goode Mgbako and then just kept piling on with terrible defensive combinations. Goode Mgbako is actually worse than playing Ballo and Reneau together. At least with B&R you can pit 3 guards around them and defend a bit.

10 and 10 is probably what we're looking at. This is the single biggest waste of talent I've seen in my 53 years of living. You could see what would work if emphasized and built around for about 15 minutes in the first half. Yet you do nothing to go back to it.
