Adam Howard No Longer On Staff

Recommended Posts

This came from the Trilly discord from a well sourced individual as well. Both stories have been confirmed by Trilly after he did some digging for us.

What l've heard...
Adam was had been frustrated with Liam last year because of how it was handled post commitment. He then was even more frustrated with the Mullins recruitment because he felt like it was winnable if Woodson had got more involved. The overall feeling was Woody was involved heavily in the Haralson recruitment and they felt like it was less
winnable than Mullins. Woodson had heard about the frustration and decisions were made.

So Woodson got involved in a commitment they had no chance of getting and didn't go for Mullins which they could've gotten.

We do not really know all that went on.  If, in fact, what was posted is correct...and a staff member is not doing what the head coach insists to do, and is talking outside of bounds with recruits...   That does not seem petty to me.

Do fans remember what happened about 6 years ago with locker-room issues?

And was Dane Fife really "let go" (/s) for talking out of school to recruits about politics?

Just because Coach Woody isn't embracing LEO...and may be more of an autocrat...  Thinking Lombardi, RMK, ...

Well, I am keeping my powder mostly dry because I haven't really a clue about any of this.

I am also not sure if some posters have agendas and just have to let us know they are not happy.   And some of them are not really related to Indiana sports.

When Woodson's coaching prowess begins to approach that of Lombardi or RMK we can talk. But it will never happen, even with a team full of hired mercenaries.

Woodson is arrogant, has a massive ego and no clue what he's doing. Period.

Not disputing the reported reason for Howard's dismissal at all, but there's one thing I don't understand: Why would Woody want Leal and/or Gallo to change their lockers? Am I missing something? I don't get it.

Adam Howard is a 23 year old operations assistant. Woody is the head of the program.

If you don’t like the way the big boss does things, you’re supposed to respectfully ask to make a recommendation. If the boss hears you out and decides otherwise? It’s a settled issue.

If the boss is the type that won’t hear you out or hears you out and you think still makes terrible decisions? Then it’s your decision to find alternate employment or get on board.

Period.

Someone should make that clear to Woody too.  He isn't Bob Knight and doesn't have anywhere near the armor the General had to be an @$$ to people.

If the bad boss is doing more harm than good to the program we all support and follow it becomes complicated.

The vibes are just off with IUBB and this crap doesn’t help.  With the way he handled Senior night, the Hoosier Hysterics, Dane Fife, and now this Adam Howard situation it’s easy to create a theme.

In business, "bad bosses" who are successful, (yes, I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but it happens all the time), are given much more rope. Like sales directors who sell like crazy, but are horrible bosses or brilliant R&D guys who put out great new products, but run their teams like fiefdoms.

They're allowed to do what they do because the positive results of their departments are so massive that they can be ego-maniacs. We all saw at IU for years with RMK.

After the Dane Fife situation, and the Senior-Day situation last year, it's obvious that Woody's a prickly guy with a massive ego. No one can honestly argue against that. Anybody who says what he did on Senior Day last year as the coach of at a B1G program with a BB history whose team didn't even make the field of 68 must one.

Many of us have had bosses who dont like criticism. Nothing wrong with that. But it seems like Woody is really thin-skinned for a guy who has such a public job.

If I had to make random guesses without knowing the situation, I would maybe wonder if it’s a DUI, or something involving law enforcement, inappropriate relationship with a student.

Ive heard a lot of crazy **** in the coaching circles with coaches still not being fired. But maybe Woody has a short temper and Adam actually didn’t do anything serious? Maybe we will find out one day. Not a great look for Indiana basketball considering you don’t fire someone during the season typically.

Hmm first Dane and Adam, I’m starting to see a trend. Did Adam do something illegal?

If he did something illegal or in violation of the NCAA, I highly doubt SD would have offered him a position in the athletic department. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's most likely a lazy, petty, vindictive, blames others, quits on his team duck.

Being the boss does not give one carte blanche to make hiring/firing decisions indiscriminately. Yes HC sort of runs the show, within his rights to do this, just a bad look. Not that he cares. But the narratives that easily form from this will surely fester and goad at him as the season goes on.

Just win.

We are not a serious program until Mike Woodson is gone. I have zero expectations for this year.

They weren't serious when they hired him, refusing to move on when they should've just cemented that.

He doesn't have the track record or coaching ability to have that much of an ego.

What a 23 year old junior employee should never do? Gripe about the boss’s final decisions behind his back. If you’re going to do that you should’ve taken that offer from Dusty May at Michigan.

Period.

Agreed. Especially him being so young in his career in basketball. You do what you're told at that age, you don't talk back or air your grievances. Last thing you want is to be let go at a P4 program with a title DURING the season. Not a great look on either end.

It’s most definitely a pattern. Buckner gave him the job, so we have to endure until… and watch WQB fiddle while the program burns.

This particular situation isn’t complicated at all if the story is accurate. It’s entirely possible for there to be multiple parties in the wrong. Woody can be the unreasonable grumpy old man. That’s the easy one to see. Howard can also be the guy that got a little too comfortable and stepped out.

Wide view? IUBB is very complicated right now, yes.
