The problem is we are no better than any other fan base anymore because we want to just be like them and act like them Fanbases are fanbases. It is easy to be "better" when you win 3 titles over an 11 year period because when the team is winning people don't complain. Kansas is already complaining about Self. Kentucky ran off Calipari. UNC is likely going to be casting off another coach after next year. Everybody involved on the product side of college sports wants to be pros until they get pro expectations placed on them. You know what happens in the pros when you don't perfirm and win? You get fired. A bunch of these kids at the big schools are making 12-20 times plus the average salary for the states their schools are in. Devries is making 40 times as much. You demand that kind of money, people are going to demand results. That being said, we don't have a team yet. This is a fanbase used to hearing at least something and either this staff is more tight lipped or we have nothing lined up at the minute. I hope it is more the former than the latter. Getting the rest of the coaching staff officially announced this weekend would be a nice reprieve from the parade of misses the past week. And those misses may end up not mattering, but they are not nothing. Those guys were at the top of the staff's list for a reason. raorIU, Pagoda, Scotty R and 1 other 4 Quote

IU hasn't hired a good fit for its men's basketball coach since 1971. That's true, but it doesn't stop there. There are reasons for that and without applying them, making the blanket statements I've seen here are comical. Can we agree that in 93 years of the 31 previous coaches, there were two successful hires? We haven't been known for our consistency in that area. HoosierHoopster and Chris007 1 1 Quote

This year's portal won't be as easy as last year, because of so much more money. These are my opinions. Michigan, Louisville and Kentucky have all been in final 4s during the lifetimes of portal kids and agents, we haven't. I'm a fn lunatic at heart so I expect a similar performance in year one though. I think DD is as good a coach as the other 3. Staff will matter and I have to believe that's been the major focus. I don’t even know what expectations mean for a first year coach. There’s no stumble so bad that it could put his job in jeopardy. He works for IU so he could miss the tourney 3 straight years and he’s getting a 4th. But I guess for me personally, I know what Woodys general expectations were last year when allowed to buy his own team. I know what a few first year coaches did at our aspirational peers last year. So if CDD can’t match those markers, I’ll be looking for answers why just to satisfy my own curiosity. 12345Brad 1 Quote

Think this points him directly down south to Auburn to play for the shirtless orange man. thank you for the bat signal, @Certified Sunshine Pumper Shewwww. Thankful to have you patrolling. Next year should be a different boat. I really wish I could find the post of all the awesome players that came out of the portal that were ranked waaaay below the players we got last year. As long as our coach can scout, we shouldn’t worry about the rankings. DougWil and 12345Brad 2 Quote

Popular Post Trish Posted April 4 Popular Post Posted April 4 Be patient folks. The staff is dealing with agents, kids asking for 900-2 million while averaging less than 10PPG, moving to a new state, etc. It’s different times in college basketball, this period is weirder as it’s CDD’s first off-season at Indiana. Not trying to make excuses for him, he still needs to make the dance his first year, but let’s all give the staff some time. Asha’man, Home Jersey, thebigweave and 8 others 11 Quote

Does DDV get the benefit of inheriting a $h1t show or is it top 3 in conference? Just having a competent coach, alone, will certainly help. I’m also not surprised we aren’t getting a couple of these guys right now just bc there are so many unknowns. While PT is guaranteed, there is literally no team - so I can understand some kids hesitancy. Even if iu is average next year, hopefully we have a foundation to build with and IU will be in a better position to attract kids next year. I think long term IU will be very solid with DDV, but may not happen next year. I also recognize a lot of us have a lot of built up frustrations and see immediate turnarounds at places like UM and Louisville. I know we'll have a competent HC, staff, and system...the level of talent brought in from the portal will determine how far they can get. Bad portal results: 15 wins. Good Portal Results: 18-20 wins. Amazing portal results: 23-25 wins. My expectation is a tournament berth year 1. Even if it's a "First Four" berth, I'll be happy for year 1. And I know Woodson had a great portal haul last year and it didn't turn out well. But the difference is Woodson didn't have a plan or a system or much of anything, really. lillurk Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Up thread someone ( @Herotime(?)) asked who to watch since some of the early deciders went another way. I’m sure the final roster won’t all be represented here but I’ve been keeping my own notes to track where everyone ends up and here’s who’s on it right now. It includes some folks I’m confident are going elsewhere but who haven’t landed yet. On the bus: Tucker DeVries and Luke Goode, pending waivers; Conner Enright, Trent Sisley Of interest: freshmen — Harun Zrno, former IU commit. Braydon Hawthorne, Kelvin Odih, and Trent MacLean, former WVU commits. Nyk Lewis, former Xavier commit. Transfers: Amani Hansberry and Sencire Harris, former WVU players (think these guys are more likely to follow Chester Frazier to VT). Flory Bidunga, Elyjah Freeman.
