Feel like our team is still so incomplete to look at computers. There’s still like 6 schollys open. Teams like Kentucky have filled up  their entire 14. Hypothetically adding Federico and getting goode back gets us up to around 25-26ish on Bart torviks roster cast. I think if we’re a top 25 team our first year I’ll be very happy

I have two thoughts that seem contradictory but are actually congruent:

1) I am very interested in the pieces that CDD thinks are worthy and their quality and stats.

Yet ultimately 

2) I don’t give a rat’s @$$ how well-regarded our new players are. I just care how well they play together and how much they WIN.

Been paying some attention to that one too for the same reasons you have. I have no idea what the scoop is there, but given how few high majors have been attached to him, and none of them are the local schools, I imagine it’s 1 of 2 things: 1) sky high financial expectations or, 2) something not strictly on-court related that’s not passing muster with some people. Can’t really see a kid with 3 years of eligibility not more in play unless something’s making people say woah.

Sounds like a great young man with a good head on his shoulders. His dad has coached him and has lots of connections in the college coaching world. Hopefully, KJ is one of them

Year 1 means everything these days. If he doesn’t get preseason hype started, that is fine. It doesn’t look like he will. To me, cracking preseason top 25 would be enough. I don’t think he does that. Then he better have a great season. Narrative will form early. Can’t get off on the wrong front. I think he’s trying to recruit “we” players instead of “me” players.

 

I think part of the “sell” is the brand and preseason rankings are part of that.

 

Like you say, if he wins it should start projecting forward. If not recruiting only gets harder.

I'll worry about how we stack up against other teams or whether we will be "a long way off" from other teams when the roster is full.

So far, I like what has been brought in. Now, I will just wait on the completion of the roster

Would be nice to start high as computers are a factor throughout. However it looks like we will have to earn it.  
 

Wilkerson was Splashy, but no way our roster has any appearance of a top 10 paid roster.  I find it interesting despite apparently having the resources.  
 

I’ll be honest I love an off-season where we are talked about on all the pods and national circles.  Part of that is coach respect.  We’ve got a rebuild of sorts going on here still.  
 

 

In terms of splash, On3 has IU bringing in the 15th, 31st, 34th, and 96th rated transfers.  15th is Tucker Devries, the others are from mid/low majors.  But mid/low majors don't necessarily equate to lack of splash, just they are players you weren't familiar with until the transfer portal.

Would you call the following group splashy?

Isaac McNeely (Virginia)

Rodney Rice (Maryland)

Morez Johnson (Illinois)

Rakease Passmore (Kansas)

Because that group of four are the P5 players directly below the 15th, 31st, 34th, and 96th rated transfers.

Neither Michigan or Louisville had preseason hype. They made their own hype with their play. We need to win games not the press conference or the preseason hype. We will be competitive and we shall see how it goes. But DeVries record shows he knows how to win. Have some confidence.

I think as we get rolling with high school recruiting then things will stabilize but so far I see a roster that’s only half put together and the computers have us ranked where we should expect to be in the dance. Let’s see how the rest fills out. 
 

Also, go look at all the star rankings for Purdue. They are mediocre. Yet Painter knows how to build a team and they will be a top team next year. It’s not about stats if you know what you’re looking for. We will find out this fall if coach got it right or not. But his track record is one of success. 

Said it perfectly! Coach is building a team to compete, not just collect talent. He knows how to put together a team, and has been successful at doing so. Little resources/talent at Drake and lost 2 of his top players at WV, and still had success. 
 

I’m not saying the 1st year will be perfect, and I’m on record saying a tournament birth isn’t necessary in year 1. However, I think coach is doing a good job navigating a lot of stuff. A mess of things from the past 8+ years, and he was only at WV one year, didn’t have a ton of time building relationships with recruits and teams. A turnaround might take a him a little time, and coach deserves our patience!

Yeah, I would say it's pretty much necessary to be honest. A good coach should be able to get us in the tournament relatively easily too.

We better make the tourney. It’s a different time than when Archie was coach. Good coaches are good in year one now. Can’t be one of the teams spending 10 million on a roster and then miss the tourney. With those resources come a certain level of expectations
