I’m fine with bball getting a lot of NIL for the new coach.  The new coach, Scott, and donors do need some better procedures in place to avoid doing stuff like paying Leal $400K.  He’s worth half that and the remaining $200K needs to be saved or go elsewhere (other bball players or FB).

Sorry but Leals not worth 200k bub

It's like this; football brings more money than basketball.  We get IU to consistent 8-11 wins in football, we get postseason money, and then can feed the basketball program again.  But until then, we need a coach on the court that can, uh, coach.  Woodson is great at recruiting but is so clueless with a clipboard.

I know for Indiana purists, this isn't the way, but let's give it a chance.

Woodson is good at short recruitments when he has money to burn. Long term recruitments has been a different story.

I agree, though it was clearly an off the cuff example for a broader point bub.

Didn’t know exactly where to put this, but this seems as appropriate a place as any.

Feel free to insert your own details because saying anything more would make this a blatant conversation posted word for word and get me in trouble - but Bryson Tucker is effectively using the rest of the season as a showcase for an SEC team with NIL and a better coach who can get him ready for the league. He’s had it with this program and the staff.

Sad, because promising  five stars aren’t lining up to play for us at the moment to begin with. But fleeing after one year isn’t a good look.

Feel like we’ll hopefully have a new coach next year anyways so it is what it is at this point

Unfortunate for IU but a smart move for the young man at this moment in time. I’m sure he was expecting to walk into a different situation with our program and nobody wants to have to adjust plans on the fly. He’s had bad luck between the staff here and G League shuttering Ignite last year. He will be fun to watch in a better situation and SEC style of play.

It must really suck for Buckner to realize that his boy has literally nothing going for him these days and everyone knows it. I wonder what's going through his mind when stuff like this reaches him (assuming it does)? I'm picturing the dog sitting in the room full of flames thinking everything is fine.

Bringing the red meat to the party right in time for Christmas!

I dont blame anyone who leaves the program while this staff is in place. Unfortunately, we as fans don’t have that option and have to ride it out.

I think he sees his pal getting $4.2M/yr direct deposited to Mack Financial where he is a partner.  They're probably planning their next real estate deal together.

As for the results, I would guess he rationalizes it by blaming the program (compares Woody to Archie or something like that, and thinks about those two tourney appearances).  He's pretty insulated from IUBB, so he can stick his head in the sand or do the dog in room of flames thing and get away with it.

No transfer portal for us, the fans.  :(

Can't say I blame him, many of us have had it with this staff too.

Yep. Quinn likely thinks he he doing his job and deserves being the 13th highest paid coach in the nation.

It’s all a moot point with Tucker and anyone else that we might want to keep in the program.

the new coach is going to have to recruit them to stay and maybe he is successful, maybe he isn’t but regardless our team will be mostly new next year and that is a good thing

Maybe he'll stay after the new coach/staff is announced.

That's pretty ugly, though I would think the right hire would have an excellent chance to keep him, assuming they want to. Given that the kid is just a straight shot hunter I'm not really sure how much more he can do to showcase himself.

And I doubt that anyone is wondering why. Hint: look at the corner office.
