Interesting.

  • Three of those four have led a team to an NCAA Final Four
  • Two of those have led a mid-major to an NCAA Final Four
  • Three of those four have completed a season as a D1 coach
  • Three of those four have coached in a P5 conference
  • Three of those four have direct recruiting ties in the State of Indiana
  • Three of those coaches have, at some point in their career, been the coach of a ranked D1 team
  •

The outlier for every single one of those criteria is McCollum. Before this year at Drake, his resume far more resembled Greg Tonagel than any other serious candidate. After this year, his resume will still probably be far closer to Tonagel's than to Dusty May's.

Finally, FWIW, McCollum has coached a total of three D1 games against NET top 100 teams and zero games against ranked teams in his career.

Very well-said. McCollum may very well end up being a great coach but he doesn't have a long resume we need. This hire needs to be someone who has the background and experience.

In my opinion, here are the coaching replacement options, based on percentage. Purely opinion. Thoughts?

1. Brad Stevens 1%

2. Chris Beard 5%

3. Dusty May 40%

4. All other random coaches 54%

Something to think about, WHEN Woodson is done, what happens to Zrno, and Sisley. I would be very interested to see if you see some decommitments or if they stay firmly committed, then I would like to believe a plan had been in place long enough for Zrno to choose IU for that reason.

Please let me know your thoughts as next year could be insanely fun with a 9-3+ Football team and an IU Basketball team with a new house and a matchup against UK in Lexington.

I’m sure their NIL offers will still stand either way. Maybe the handful of other Indiana kids that IU managed to go elsewhere will reconsider.

But as you know, two recruits won’t change Dolson’s mind.

Agree. Too risky right now for IU. He very well could have a Bo Ryan ceiling, but IU shouldn’t take that chance with this hire.

I personally think it’s Stevens or May. May solely based on his buyout clause at UM. He knew IU would be in this situation this offseason.

Allegedly Dolson had he and Pearl lined up last off season.

Therefore, I think it’s a two horse race.

I don't expect Stevens to be coach, any more than I think I'll land a date with Jessica Alba.

I can see why some things may be different this time with Stevens. The Celtics are for sale, his contract is expiring, one child is at Notre Dame instead of at home.

We’ve been down this road before.  She is now available and if you are available, I guess there is a chance, which means there is a chance for BS to coach here!  lol!  Now go get her so we increase our chances!  :)

I see McCollum as having a high floor but a low ceiling. I don't think elite talent is going to want to play in that system. We would be much better than we are now, but I' don't think he would put us in a position to win championships.

He’s the answer to the losing problem. He’d 100% do very well here. The only question is whether the baggage/bad PR is worth winning again. I’m sick and tired of IU being such a sorry *** program, so it would be for me.

I think it’s a matter if it’s something that was a one time thing or has secretly happened multiple times but just not reported. I also think he would need to agree to entering AA or sign some sort of clause. If he wins here AND doesn’t have another dust up then in a couple years it mainly goes away because people will stop hating on him. He has to absolutely prove he’s turned his life around though IMO.

Let's be honest sampson was the only good coach we hired in 25 years. If we hired him now vs then he would skate and be our coach for 20 years. The stuff he went down for is now a joke. I mean with nil and online how many of these guys even go to a class. Seriously how hard is a good grade online. I haven't heard of a guy being academically ineligible in 15 years. I just hope we can finally go big and get it right.

It may be a joke now and I tend to agree with you about that. The fact remains it was illegal when he did it and he was already on probation with the NCAA.  He deserved to be fired.

Fair enough.   Just seems like a very risky candidate.

It's not. I'm not interjecting myself into any more Stevens circle jerk talk. When Woodson is let go and this board wants to get serious about realistic candidates I'll gladly partake.

Will Wade isn't a realistic candidate so I don't believe you. Just because your fantasy is different than others' fantasies doesn't make your fantasy realistic.

I'm not questioning your take, but I know nothing about his system.  I looked up this season's numbers and see Drake is averaging about 71ppg ... hit 80+ a couple times....so I'm genuinely asking what's wrong with his system?
