Fire Coach Woodson Thread

I think about the under 12 or under 8 minute timeout.

Galloway himself was also boo'd. LOUDLY. That was right after he airballed a 3 early in the game. He was subbed a little after and the student section cheered. Clearly, the students do not like Galloway. Fire Woodson chants started after that.

I really hate for the players to be individually boo’d like he was. Gallo in particular could have (probably should have for his career) transferred out, and seems to really love IU.

Unfortunately students do this stuff, and the writing was on the wall when Mike Woodson’s “Angels” as Doyle put it saved his job last year. As much as watching this team play basketball makes me want to bleach my eyeballs, I still feel bad for the kids— paid a bunch of NIL or otherwise.

Back on topic ... I hope we part ways with Woody before the next home game because I do feel bad for the players getting boo'd. The coaches on the other hand...

Some of their effort may warrant it to some fans, but it is a sorry sight to see kids (even if they're well compensated) have 17,000 of their own fans angry at them. Sad to see them hang their heads. That was the fans telling you to address the elephant in the room.

It's not going to get any better if they don't announce a change is coming at least at the end of the season. And at that rate... just let an interim drag this over the finish line.

You can't have another environment like that at Assembly Hall.

Normally I would agree but after they took the bribes and made the “true fans” comment everything is fair game imo.

The players absolutely deserve it. Outside of Leal and Goode, none of them put in any effort. I will give Carlyle some slack. He does try more than the others, he just isn't good.

Spot on. Not pulling the bandaid off last spring was always going to have repercussions potentially, and it is going to manifest itself on the players. This is a bed the administration is going to have to choose to stay in from here on out, and for the player’s sake I hope they choose to at least announce retirement post season.

After this last game I have shifted to feeling like it is probably better to pull the ripcord now and install and interim. No good can come from Woody coaching inside Assembly Hall and risking a bad loss.

Galloway and Leak got paid to back Woodson. They bought their tickets, took the risk. I say, let ‘em crash.

I totally understand folks feeling that way, but regardless of their salaries or even the tone deaf comments— booing college aged players is not a rubicon I can personally cross.

No difference boo'ing them and dudes the same age in the NBA. They are adults with big boy jobs now. Big boy responsibilities and consequences come with it.

Absolutely agree. They're getting paid to perform... when they do, they get cheered... when they don't, you get what you get.

Especially when they want to run their mouths and call us out on "senior day" (except it wasn't their "senior day") ...

I doubt that I would boo them, personally... but I absolutely understand and agree with that reaction... boo the effort, boo the laziness... just don't make it personal.

Totally agree. Wasn't Gallo rumored to have mutual interest with Purdue before senior day comments?

Wonder if he regrets accepting the payday over a chance to contribute on a competitive team. At the end of the day these kids backed their coach and why wouldn't they? That's what you're "supposed" to do and they're getting paid a ton. IMO they've been very misguided and that's a shame for their basketball careers. I would not mind a totally new team next year but there are some kids I'd be happy to have back.

I think there's a real good chance they announce Woody will retire for health reasons the Friday before the Maryland game and that will be his last time on the sidelines for IU. He will get the warm reception befitting of a program legend regardless of the outcome of the game, then everyone can move on and start picking up the pieces...

I wouldn’t boo either. But I get why they did. And I’m not going to feel bad for players getting paid a relative crap ton of money but not producing results. Welcome to reality.

They’re both 5th years, and highly paid ones at that. Older than many in the NBA & NFL. Buy the ticket, take the ride! If don’t like, they can just ‘chill’ like the rest of the team.

To me they are now professional athletes, and booing professional athletes comes with the territory, IMO.  If you can’t take the heat, get the heck out of the kitchen!

I don't think booing players is the most terrible thing ever, especially when the effort is as lacking as it has been lately, but these are still young men at the end of the day and I have some sympathy for them particularly from a basketball perspective playing for Woody.

I was a dumb azz kid in college and I can't imagine how it would feel to have your own fans - 17,000 of them no less - booing you on your own home court. They're not exactly being set up for success either ...

Ideally, the administration is smart enough to do what it can to make sure this does not become a recurring theme at IU home games for an entire conference season. That is the sort of thing that IS actually toxic and would affect recruiting.

It can't become a regular thing. Pull the plug and make Maryland the last game Mike Woodson is on the sidelines.
