Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Coaching Changes @CoachingChanges

Sticking with #IUBB, an unvetted and therefore for the time being untrusted source tells us that Quinn Buckner behind closed doors is not defending Mike Woodson as boisterously as he had been. Not against him, but apparently less for him. I was 95/5 Woody stays. Now I’m 50/50.

By the way I totally blame @Capt. Crimson for this. It's all his fault

Besides his run to the elite eight in 2014, what else did Archie achieve at the level he was at that it would indicate he could handle a P5 job? Sure he did really well that next year with a limited number of players, but at the same time he was coaching in the A-10 not the Big Ten. Big difference.

Dayton won by a point in the 1st round over Ohio State. Crazy to think that a bucket could make that much of a difference in the opinion of potential coach.

A single bucket can make a difference.

Florida Atlantic made it to the Final Four last year by beating Memphis in the first game by a point.  Would Dustymania be so high if Florida Atlantic had lost that first round game by a point rather than making it to the FF?

OK since @AZ Hoosier is firing me. I'm going to say this since it's been a good day so far and we have a game tonight.

From what I'm hearing I don't think QB is going to block Dolson from making a move after the season. He might not agree with it but he won't stop it from happening.

That is the good news. The bad news as of today is I would slowly start bracing ourselves that Bruce Pearl might not be the next coach. I'm not sure Dolson can get enough support for it.

I think IU has a case of FOMO. If I were to guess today and this could change later today or this week I would say Dusty May would be the next coach.

So the "no one bigger than the program" crowd strikes again.  These people hate us.

I’m certainly not privy to any communication between Glass and Woodson, but does deciding someone is not even qualified enough to get an interview necessarily constitute blowing someone off?  Does your company interview every single person that applies for a job?

I think Woody’s status as a former star player entitled him to better treatment than most others, at least in the eyes of some observers.

I'll take it. I prefer Pearl by a decent margin, but change is needed badly either way.  I hate rooting for losses, but it is what it is.  I will just be checking scores periodically through our remaining games, because if I watch, I don't think I can root for the players to lose.

Not getting Bruce Pearl because he doesn’t want to come here is one thing. Not getting Bruce Pearl because the IU administration doesn’t support it? That would be entirely unacceptable.

Remember I said as of today. This could change several times before the BTT

Archie was 139-63 with four straight NCAA tournaments and four straight seasons of 24+ wins to include the EE run when we hired him. He was hardly “flavor of the month.” I didn’t like Archie as coach either but this is revisionist history. He was at least talked about in connection to almost every major opening from about 2014 on.

Yes, Archie was indeed highly thought of nationally.

At the time Archie, Mack and Holtman were considered the three hottest young coaches in the country. Kind of crazy how it turned out.

Didn't Bob Knight win a title on one bucket?

I can see both sides of the argument on May and I'm kind of in the middle but leaning more towards the pessimistic side than the optimistic side. So May wouldn't really excite me as a hire. I'm used to being disappointed and/or not excited by IU basketball hires at this point so it's par for the course.

He's not Woodson so there's that.

I’m going to play Devils Advocate: is K(C)athy coming on here to try to steer the narrative a certain direction?

I have no idea if the things she is saying are legit or not. Kind of seem suspicious that somebody comes in out of the blue with a post like that as their first post; what’s the impetus for her to do that?

Good point. Anyone check other boards to see if there was some similar from Vivian with a v?

I absolutely agree that he deserves better treatment than most others, but he was still on qualified for the job in my opinion.

While I understand the chatter about Pearl and May, it's a little disconcerting that those names are so dominant. I hope Dolson is casting a wider net--Drew, Donovan, etc.

If Louisville snags Drew or Donovan and IU takes May, it would suggest to me that IU didn't aim high enough or IU is more damaged than I imagine. Big Ten has more resources and more stability than ACC. It's not like UL is ahead in NIL, facilities, etc.

Yes, he is from Indiana but what were his HS rankings? Not saying he didn't recruit him but we need bigger recruitment wins and connections to agencies to land big time recruitments.

We need players that are evaluated by a competent staff that will fit that staff's system and give them the best chance to win championships. We've had plenty of talent and....well.

Good thing we finally found out and can now move on. I think we're besties already Kathy

Absolutely true. And if Butler doesn’t make the play at the end of SDSU Final 4 game FAU is playing for a Natty, May has pulled a Brad Stevens, and nobody’s questioning whether he’s the Guy.  If things were different they wouldn’t be the same.
