Gabe Cupps? 32 minutes and one turnover. As a freshman primary ball handler in his first B1G road game.

He’s matched up against their top scorer and held him to half his season average (half those on FT’s) and you think he “sucked defensively.”  I don’t think so.   
 

I’m somewhat grading on a curve because he’s a frosh in his first true road game drawing a tough assignment in his second start. But even if you don’t think he played well on defense (he did), saying he “sucked” is ridiculous. He…at least…did a solid job on a guy they tried to get isolated against him.

Yep McDaniel was 3-14 from the field and 0-4 from 3. He just lit Oregon up.

McDaniel forced up a ton of shots against Cupps. He tried to play hero ball because Cupps didn’t look to McDaniel like he belonged on him. And McDaniel went 3-14 from the floor.

Cupps did his job and then some tonight. That kid has an uncanny knack for being on the winning team an inordinate amount of the time.

One more thing about Cupps; he is going to be incredibly frustrating to our opponents. Other teams’ guards are routinely going to force stuff like McDaniel did because they will wrongly assume they should dominate the kid, but Gabe Cupps has a next-level basketball brain. He just doesn’t turn it over much and never will, he’s our best screener of our guards, he makes excellent post entry passes, and he never, NEVER goes under a ball screen.

Little, unnoticed things that again tonight led to Gabe Cupps sitting in the winner’s locker room.

I feel better about the Auburn game now than I did a few weeks ago. But I can't shake the feeling we'll look a lot less athletic than them and the three-ball will be our enemy again.

Wasn't able to watch it live but followed the score and saw the last ten seconds of the game (or really, like last five minutes in real time with all the stoppages).  Wanting to watch the replay on peacock but they are still loading it.  Hopefully soon as I'm already staying up wayyyyy too late to watch it.

Even though you know the outcome, when you’re watching the 1st half with no X, Cupps struggling with McDaniel and  Galloway playing his worst half in 3 years, you’re gonna think there is no way they actually won this.

It brings so much joy seeing Mgbako get into a groove. I would take 11-14 from him every single night. What a game from this team. To face as much adversity as they did (like not converting on TWO straight 3-on-1 opportunities) and get the stops they had to have at the end of the game to win - priceless. This win can be a launch pad for the season. Build on it!

Hop on the bus, burn the first 35 minutes of game film, never speak of this again.  Except to say we beat them.
Michigan is a bad team, and it turns out we're a little bit better.  I also feel like this team has gone from a team that figured out ways to lose a couple years ago to a team that figures out ways to win.  I like that.
Kel'el Ware.  Man, that dude is good.  Enjoy him this year, he's gone next year.  Great great player.
Galloway is strong, he doesn't get rattled, and he makes good decisions.  He just struggles to put the ball in the bucket.
Reneau is improved from last year.  We're getting great games out of him consistently, especially now that he's cut down his fouls.
Gunn is great on defense, atrocious on offense.  Mgbako is ok, but a disappointment (thus far) from expectations coming into the season.
Cupps is solid-ish.  Definitely a freshman, and definitely needs to hit some shots.  He simply can't exist out there without being a threat to score.
7-1 baby.  I really like that.

I may just be remembering incorrectly but man it feels like the last 2 years in these 3 pts or less games we have won way more than we lose. Again I might be way off but it feels that way.

It had to be a huge relief for him to get his first three to fall. Then, he added a second in a pivotal moment. He can be this team’s X-factor, and I would love to see that come to fruition. He offers so much if he can execute.
