str8baller Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 I think the most perplexing part of that game was the bench unit plus Galloway or X putting that run together the last ten minutes of the first half. No idea where that came from and it was short lived as Walker came out in the 2nd and reverted to form. Somehow Cupps Trey Gunn Banks and Sparks played pretty good m2m and found ways to score for about a 6min stretch. thebigweave 1 Quote

IU_FanClub Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 We might just have to Iowa football this thing and win ugly for a bit until we can get some things figured out. Beat Harvard and Maryland and then go find at least one win in the at Michigan, Auburn (N), Kansas stretch. thebigweave 1 Quote

IU_FanClub Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Biggest key early this year is going to be taking care of the buy games and winning the home conference games. By the time we get to January put yourself in a position to string together some wins and compete towards the top of the league. Quote

Won’t be surprised if that win ends up a Q2 I hope they do, but that would mean they are below 101 in NET. That would be in the neighborhood of what Wake Forest did last year, which was a NET of 90 with a 19-14 record. I think they probably have to go at least 9-11 in conference to finish with a NET below. I don't think they will. I'd say they have more talent than last year....but Kenny Payne on the sidelines isn't a good recipe. They got beat tonight by a defense that I'm sure IU spends very little time practicing. I've been a proponent of us trying it because of the issues we've had with switches. Mgbako wasn't in when we went to it, but I'd like to see him in that set sometime going forward because I think it fixes a lot of his defensive issues. lillurk 1 Quote

Think I mentioned this before but important for some fans who may be questioning him. Always easier after a win haha X obviously came alive a little but he needs more game reps and it will come back. When a player is out of game action for so long with an injury the brain atrophies just like any muscle. His speed of thought isn’t there at high level game speed yet and that is leading to poor decisions. I am pretty involved with my kids in soccer and one plays D1. I see it all the time when a player goes out for 6/9 months. They are physically fine when they come back but they are thinking slower. It comes back usually couple months into playing regularly. Practice doesn’t bring it back either. Has to be games. Just something for fans wondering WTH and maybe forgetting how long he was out. Xavier has started slow every year he has been here. Had hoped for a quick start but as long as he finishes strong I guess I am ok with that lillurk 1 Quote
Popular Post BGleas Posted November 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 21, 2023 Great call by Woodson and the staff to go zone! While it didn't completely turn our offense around, I was really excited to see Woodson swith up our approach and to an extent system. We largely went away from the 2 low post offense. First possession and throughout we went with a horn set and then we also went with a 4-out/1-in a lot too. Again it didn't result in drastic improvement, largely because we didn't shoot well, but we did have a bit more space, got XJ and some others into the lane more and had a few more buckets hitting slashers. Really liked seeing those adjustments. HoosierHoopster, J34, Class of '66 Old Fart and 5 others 7 1 Quote

But yeah, I think we saw some positive results of those changes, just need more shots to start dropping. We had more movement, got some easier baskets and got some open jumpers that didn't go. RaceToTheTop Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Next up....Harvard. Malik Mack has been really, really good for them. As a team, they have shot well from three (41%) but they take it at a below average rate (22 per game). They hung with Boston College, losing by 9. Beat Massachusetts in overtime, but that was really a game they should have lost -- U Mass was 10 of 25 from the line. Don't expect it to be an easy one -- Pom has IU as a seven point favorite. Torvik has IU by 9. WayneFleekHoosier, thebigweave, lillurk and 1 other 4 Quote

I don’t know about slashers, but it definitely gave Reneau more space to work. Someone wrote in one of the games he’s as close to an automatic bucket that we have and that’s true if he’s allowed to go 1-on-1 and can avoid doubles. we scored 20 points in the last 8 minutes. Ware and (mostly) Reneau had 13 of those thanks to only one of them being in the post at a time. XJ added 5 on end of the game FT’s plus a layup earlier. Reneau was nearly unstoppable. Completely agree. Yeah, it wasn't an avalanche of slashers or anything, but we did hit Banks on a backdoor cut in the first half and I think Gunn got one in the 2nd half. Maybe 1-2 more and probably doesn't happen if both bigs are in the paint. HoosierHoopster, lillurk, thebigweave and 2 others 5 Quote
