cthomas Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 For all the faults, I saw growth tonight. We need MM to play for us to reach our potential. If that means letting him learn the defense on the fly, so be it. I thought Malik and Ware looked more connected tonight which is a good thing going forward. I always thought November and December might be rough. Not saying they are the same, but the 81 team was 7 - 5 in December. It's undeniable that we have talent on this team. They just need to learn their roles to be successful. Hoosierfanyuh, Home Jersey, thebigweave and 1 other 2 2 Quote

Or get them in the transfer portal instead of another raw non scoring big. Quote
JSHoosier Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Of course the guy from IN lights us up. Guess that's better than when Wisconsin found Waldo and he dropped 30 against us. Ware playing well so far granted not against top competition. Reneau still putting up better lines. Mgbako's best game but we need more than 1-7 from 3. Gunn not a total liability for a change. Too many offensive rebounds again. Bad 3 pt defense. Bad 3pt and FT shooting. Quote

I was really impressed by Malik’s play off the block bringing back that old school hook shot. Ware is just the most complete player we have on both ends of the floor. He knows his role and is always in position. cthomas, thebigweave, AkronHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote

He played 9 minutes against Colorado State when they were blown out and only two minutes against Toledo in a game they lost by one. I don't know why he's been buried on the bench this year, but he shot 48% from three last year. He's from Greensburg, Indiana and it seems that sometimes randos from Indiana have big nights at Assembly Hall. @RaceToTheTop FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!! DAMN THAT IS A STRRRONG TAKE FROM THIS AFTERNOON!!!!! rcbowla Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 At game. Not going to say I had best scout as wife was in my ear the whole time. Anyhow, much better D from Mbagko. Terrible D from Cupps and Reneau. May not be true but from what I watched. Mbagko looked much more in the flow. C.J. looked better. Weird from my perspective as X, MR and GC all looked to be the worst defensively. I've drank beer too so....lol. A "w" is a "w". RaceToTheTop Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Although Mgbako didn't hit from deep tonight, we got him shots. Keep feeding him because if there is a guy that could go off from three, it's him. Probably just need him to get off of his head, but not feeding him when he's open would keep him in his head even worse. MM had a bad first half defensively but I thought the second half was the best defense he's played this year. Walker needs to not shoot another three this year. Ware has been better than I thought he would be. X had a rough game. Did think he had made a couple of plays defensively but got called for fouls that weren't there. Don't know the extent of the injury but hopes it's not too bad. Glad to see him walk off but he definitely looked like he was in pain on the bench. Tha dude went for 25 points, 7-10 from 3pt. I have no idea why he hasn't been playing for Wright State. Last year he played in 33 games, started 5, and played a significant role -- 17 min/game, 6.7 points/game, and shot extremely well: 52% overall, 48% from three, 85% from the line. Effective field goal percentage of 62%. The worst defensive players in D1 should still get on the court if they shot that well. But he had only gotten in Colorado State for blowout minutes and I think was only put in at the very end of the Toledo game when they were looking for some offense. The funny thing that he still didn't start tonight with Calvin out. If Calvin plays, Welage probably wouldn't have seen the court much tonight. thebigweave, Rico, AkronHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Went live for a little bit earlier to talk just a tiny bit about the game. And yes... I was INSANELY NERVOUS. I know. i always am. Quote
IUHoosier5 Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 My postgame thoughts are simple. I still believe this team can be scary good. The defense to start the game is what I expect it to be come January. Mgbako’s shot is so pretty he will become the desperately-needed 3-point threat. Coach screaming at X to shoot the ball and him nodding was good to see. Ware is really, really good. Malik has improved a ton, yet he still gets all “freshman” like with the ball at times. I think he corrects that. I wouldn’t want to play this team in March. thebigweave, cthomas, Home Jersey and 2 others 5 Quote

I think here shortly he will find his sweet spot and hit more 3’s as the year progresses. Ngw7183, thebigweave, HoosierHoopster and 2 others 5 Quote
