Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Wright State - Thursday, 11.16.23 @ 7:00 on BTN

Recommended Posts

Ware is playing excellent basketball.

Reneau is playing well.

Gunn looked good tonight and made the right passes. First game where he deserved more minutes. Happy about that.

Banks- not great but his potential is sky high. I hope he stays a Hoosier.

Sparks isn’t impressing me. Love the dude, but idk.

Walker is better than he’s showing. Making bad decisions.

Mgbako can score the rock. But man, that defense has been beyond awful. If I can pick anyone on our team to shoot FTs it’s MM.

X is ying and Yang.

Galloway did about everything right but his jumper seems like a prayer right now. Not confident.

All signs point to UConn by +15, sadly.

He’s not a natural fit next to ware either which doesn’t help anything

Very true. But they need to learn how to compliment each other. If they play together, rather than just along side, they could be tough to defend.

I’ve questioned his ability to play through contact against better players. But he’s delivered 3 games in a row. If he does that versus a good Uconn team—even if the rest of the team is bad—i will at least feel like we have something to build around going forward.

I agree. Ware obviously hasn’t faced elite big men, in the first three games, but although he looks like a beanpole it’s been impressive he is holding his space (not getting knocked around) even when he gets fouled.

Ware makes me laugh.  Bloomington is just a quick pit stop.

Have said it since game 1.  Mgbako can’t play with Malik and Ware.  We are going to lose games if something doesn’t change there.  We are lucky we haven’t already. Malik and Ware have to play the big minutes.  Mgbako should be playing limited minutes behind Malik.  Unfortunately, I don’t think CMW will even think about it. He’s going to continue playing too many minutes and we will be worse for it.

I don’t see why we need Walker in the rotation.  Seems like a great kid but not sure what he gives us on the court.  Banks should be playing more anyway.  Still see the potential with him.

For the sake of conversation... (not trying to start the next Army thread)...

The first ~15 minutes of the game, we were close to rolling. That was a glimpse of what this team could look like when things are working as they should. Clearly Mack's got some athletic shortcomings and his defense absolutely warrants him sitting when the game is in doubt. It's very very disappointing we could not blow out Army, FGCU, or Wright State even without Mack playing like a 5 star recruit.

It's been 3 games. Let's see how things go and root him on... not write him off (as some claim others were doing to Cupps, who is also clearly athletically limited in some ways. Yes he plays better defense. He is a damn good player) Who has more upside though?

If this team is going to go dancing, we all better hope Mack gets out of his head, learns how to sustain defensive focus for an entire game, and a lot more...The entire team also has to work on their 3 point defense and rebounding. He's not single handedly the reason we've struggled. On the bright side, CJ looked pretty good. UConn is going to be a blood bath, fine... they just won a natty. We'll get better. Hopefully XJ's ankle isn't too busted.

Hope they beat Louisville, if not, I'll agree with others that we may be .500 or less. But until that game (at least) I still think it's too early to act like you can predict how the season will go.

I agree on the bold especially. I'd rather Banks get some of Walker's minutes especially at this time of the year, we need to keep Banks engaged as the year goes on and we shorten the rotation. Or he will be a darn good get for some other team.

The shot selection was good and the stroke is great. The shots just didn’t fall.

This feels like you're agreeing with me.  He didn't make shots and his defense is horrendous.

He's a major liability and disappointment.  I see no reason to think he'll be a one and done.  Prove me wrong Mackenzie

I hope he does prove a lot of people wrong. And if not?

Personally, I'd hope he sticks around for year 2 in Bloomington... him and McNeeley :O

I was just typing this exact thing in response to this haha.

“I mean, I really do want Mgbako to play to his potential this year…but there also is a part of me that wouldn’t mind a year 2 alongside Liam haha

Some kids have their mind made up regardless of how they end up.   I’ve seen it too many times where a kid will enter the draft and risk going undrafted.  I don’t see him coming back even if he has a bad season

Yessir.  And we've seen it plenty of times at IU.

I still have high hopes.  But expectations are really low.

Definitely happens, and it’s unfortunate.
