Very similar to Iowa, in that regard.

BUT…Miami doesn’t really rely on 3’s quite as much as Iowa does. They’re smaller and quicker. Hopefully we’ll run them off the line a little where TJD is there to alter/block shots.  I can live with them beating us off the bounce if we can force them into midrange and contested shots at the rim.

As long as we rebound those misses. I don't know what we were doing for the majority of the first half but it wasn't defensive rebounding.

Unofficial 1901 Depth/Injury Report

Miami comes into this game as Co-champions of the ACC lead by a guard heavy group. They are also coming off a 63-56 win over Drake after going on a very good 16-1 run in under 4 minutes yesterday when they were down 8. Miami is lead by veteran Coach Jim Larrañaga, who has been a pretty good coach for Miami having 2 ACC championships, 1 ACCT Championship, 3 Sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8 (2022). Miami will be gunning to make back to back Sweet 16s in its School history.

Probable Starters:

6’7 248 F Norchad Omier (Team’s best Forward, 13.8 PPG, and nearly averages a double double per game, has been in foul trouble as of late)

6’5 190 G Wooga Poplar (Provides pretty good support, Team’s best 3PT shooter if has the ball, usually plays 25+ MPG)

6’0 185 G Nigel Pack (Indianapolis native, but he can light it up real quick, extremely efficient shooter)

6’4 185 G Isaiah Wong (You can make the argument he is the best player on Miami, leads team in 15.8 PPG, assists leader, and very streaky from the 3, was shut down by Drake)

6’7 195 G Jordan Miller (Team’s 2nd leading scorer at 15.0 PPG, very good rebounder and shoots respectably at 35.6% from the 3, he is pretty much in the game at all times)

As you can tell, Miami is very guard heavy and has balanced scoring all around with 4 starters averaging 13.4 PPG and a team average of 79.4 PPG, making Miami one of the best offenses in the country (#12 in Kenpom). They shoot a very respectable 37% from the 3 and makes around 78% of their FT shooting. However, they have a suspect defense since they give up around 72 PPG is ranked at #112 in total defense on Kenpom. 3 starters play around 30 minutes or more in their games, and some have been recently playing nearly 35-36 MPG in the last few weeks. They foul around 15 PPG, with their starting forward being in foul trouble as of late before the Drake game. However, this will not be an easy task for the Hoosiers, since Miami is going to play quick and try to bury you deep. Coach Larrañaga always have a well coached team and I expect that for tomorrow night. On paper they look small, but watching them against Drake, they play so much bigger than what they are. Drake shut down Isaiah Wong yesterday, probably with Miami, if one player shuts down, another will step up.

Looks like, in quality minutes, these last few weeks, Miami has been playing 7-8 deep. The main players usually coming off the bench is 6’2 205 G Bensley Joseph (5.3 PPG, 38%PT), 6’6 200 G Harlond Beverly (relieve player), and 6’9 215 F Anthony Walker (relieve player).

Injury Report:

As of now, no one, however, starting F Norchad Omier is currently playing through an ankle injury, but was cleared yesterday. He had a double-double against Drake if anyone was wondering

Miami is a strong scoring, balanced team. I’m sure our offensive game plan will be to play through the post and pound it inside, but unless TJD really brings it on the glass rebounding will likely be an issue and these guys can spread the floor offensively. A much tougher opponent than Kent (captain obvious).
Good game for Bates and Kopp to bring outside shooting to help our front court. Also a good time for staff to adjust up front.

In the B1G, it seems like Miami’s profile is most similar to Iowa: Guard driven offense, don’t play much defense, have some big wins (beat Duke by 20 a month ago), but some bad losses including a recent quad 4 loss to FSU at the end of the season and a quad 3 loss to Georgia Tech earlier. One thing to note, though, is Miami’s 3 pt percentage is strong but do not shoot it nearly as often as Iowa (100 fewer attempts this season). Miami guards are trying to step in for mid range jumpers or get to the rim. This will be a tough fast paced one for IU, but if we are to face a guard centric power conference team then Miami would be the one play, on paper anyways.

Need this one. Woodson could use the we made it “to the sweet 16 you could be that difference to get us to the final 4.” We need this. Indiana needs to be cool

If winning is being cool, then I agree.  Just win baby!

Going to be a super tough game. These dudes can score. Gotta toughen up for this one and play smart or it'll be Saint Mary's 2.0 real quick.

Pretty similar to an Iowa team, that is my comparison

Top notch players. Top notch Coach. What Woody said about Kopp is hilarious!

The reverence Woody has for Coach Knight and Coach Knight for Woody is unparalleled. Pretty cool..

Small teams and full court pressure teams scare me with IU. We don’t have any fast, tough, tested ball handlers. Our guards are either tall, or inexperienced or both.

Do I think IU has the better basketball players? Yes…ofc. We usually do in most games we play.

Do I think IU will fail at either breaking the press or defending the 3? Yes…

Will Miami hit 3s at a good enough clip? That’s the game.

I like us here. Went back and watched Miami Drake. Miami’s guards can really shoot it but we have much better guards (especially defensively) than Drake.  The defensive pressure on the wing really affected Kent State’s shots. We just need to rebound the damn ball defensively.

Miami’s frontcourt has no answer for us. If Trayce, Race, and Reneau give us anything close to what they gave us last night, then we win the game with some breathing room.

One of either Kopp or Bates has to knock down open 3’s.

Miami is dangerous, but so are we. Galloway and Trayce having familiarity with Pack has to help some.

Forgot to mention…… we have the best player in the tournament wearing our jersey. Everyone completely overlooked that prior to playing KSU.
