Basically— he doesn’t create his own jumper off the bounce / dribble, he isn’t creating his own “shot”. JHS can beak defenders down and get to his spot for the pull up. X is pretty good at creating his own shot as well but without him it’s really only JHS and TJD (in middle / paint) who can create their own shot

IMHO Bates gets in a then tries to do too much.  He tries to be a "star" instead of just playing team basketball and taking what the defense gives him.  Such as last night, trying to go one on one and shooting with three dudes guarding you -- not a recepie for success.

Don’t want to rehash the same discussion, not going to. What is clear is Race hasn’t been 100 percent since returning from injury and he didn’t play last night. Glad we have 3 guys who each can bring game to the table up front.

I'm simply quoting this post because it's you lol. Just wanted to say I really appreciated JG's effort in the 2nd half yesterday. I beat up on him at times but I'll also give him credit. The 2 offensive rebounds on one possession (he did end up turning it over unfortunately) and the block sometime after the under 4 were all great effort plays. That's the role he can thrive in but he needs to remain focused and that's been his biggest problem imo.

There are times in every game where he thinks he's the only player on the floor.  He decides he's going to shoot the ball no matter what the defense shows him, no matter how open his teammates is, he's the only one on the team.  I call that selfish but maybe you call it something else.  I hate that part of his game

I agree Josh. I do see the selfishness at times also but I'm not sure if that's his intent. He may be selfish for unselfish reasons? Thinking the team needs a bucket so he tries to create for himself because he's confident he can get it. If that makes any sense.

I think they will stagger a lot of time. Woody was actually doing this before the injuries. Often XJ would be leading the team with the backups, especially when TJD rested.   
 

JHS sounds welcome the ball handling help on the press and aggressive half court defense, because it has given him trouble at times.

I see it to a degree too. To add to this, we still have lulls where we just stand there. We saw it in the first half a few times where it went into TJD and we just stood and watched. I feel like JHS takes it upon himself to try to make a play sometimes and it looks selfish. We can make things look so pretty and easy but turn around and make it look so difficult or lay a turd on offense. I think this is where some of the comments about our offense not being great come from.

Yeah I agree — Woodson got him focused when they had that sit down, he came out of that with 3 strong games, and shortly came his injury. Now he’s also not 100 percent but made up for it in effort yesterday. Now the question for him is can he get healthy and bring that energy while bring keyed in.

There's disconnect.. I categorize that as a mistake. 

An error. I don't expect him to be perfect offensively, but, even when he's struggling our team needs him to be aggressive.. and I expect that. He cannot hide..

If that's selfishness(mistakes), then.. so are miss block outs, turnovers, not rotating defensively, etc.

Woodson wants JHS doing what he is doing. He has the green light. The fans have to put up with some of the bad ( he’s still a freshman) to get the good. JHS is arguably the best guard we’ve had since Yogi( ok maybe Romeo) and we aren’t on this current run without him.

That help and recover by TJD was something else. Technically, Dickinson was open there for a sec but the ballhandler couldn’t see it.  
 

No idea why Michigan wanted a pnr instead of trying to spread out and give Dickinson a chance to win it down low.

Yeah, agree. We were making it tough to get to him, but when he got it TJD had nothing for him all night.
