Yes, he is better than any coach IU has ever had but he is monumentally horrible nonetheless. Expect more and perhaps you will get more. Fire Tom Allen. Pay real money for a real coach and staff and perhaps have a competitive team. BIG is gonna be brutal…BRUTAL!

Is there a more misused player in the nation than Jaylin Lucas? Why is he out starting RB and not a starting WR? Why is he never lining up in the slot? Dude should be set to run slants and in routes all day long, with an occasional screen pass. Literally wasting away his time. 100% guarantee he transfers after this season.

He is such a gadget piece for a creative staff. But right now every time they hand off to that kid on some downhill run, all I think is please, God, don’t get hurt.

I also posted this in the game thread but why, why, why why has Bell unsuccessfully run us up the middle, when it is short and goal, 10 or 11 straight times during “regular” game time but then…..
For some reason, fortunately, he actually mixed it up when we had the two overtime 2 point conversions (ie basically short and goal).   Instead of plowing up the middle the first 2 point attempt was an incomplete pass but it was a successful call as Jackson missed seeing a wide open Lucas in the end zone (no one was within 10 yards of him).  The second conversion attempt involved a little trickery with Jackson getting the ball back and completing the conversion pass. 
I wonder if the vastly different results will sink-in with Bell (and his head coach)?

Makes one wonder if there is a sideline job that makes one call plays up the middle near goal line time after time.  (that includes practice, game preparation, strategy off season and during season).

Yep.

Not only do they have him as a “run it between the tackles running back” he is actually used as a blocking back!?!?!? Lucas is one of the most exciting weapons we have had in a while but as a 160-170 lb (generous 170) speedster he is literally anything BUT a blocker. Insane.

PS, Can you imagine if Lucas had also transferred to UW? Penix to Lucas connections would be national highlights every week.

The program was in a pretty good place (for IU) when he took it over. It’s in a much worse place now. That says a lot about how good of a coach he is, imo…

I know someone referenced the Indy Star article about CTA's contract a while back in this thread. But I didn't know if it had exact numbers, so I looked it up. According to an Osterman piece from last fall, this is the breakdown: 

Fired after 2023 season: owed $20.8M
Fired after 2024: owed $7.95M
Fired after 2025: owed $5.4M

So, the reality is, he's got two years to get this thing going again. The rest of this season and next -- because I don't see anybody ponying up nearly $21M to fire a football coach. I'm not even sure I can see us forking over $8M, but if this and next season are as ragged as the past two, I don't see how Dolson would be able to avoid making a move at that point.

That's the sad part. We were making good progress under Kevin Wilson. Appearing in a bowl game in consecutive years was a big step forward as a program. There was more of an "on the upswing" type energy around IUFB too.

On the recruiting trail, we were beating Power 5 teams like Minnesota, Louisville, and Wisconsin for players, rather than MAC teams like when Lynch was here. 

All of that progress on the field has been lost, and it's all because of the man in charge. Allen is able to land some good talent still, but they're not reaching their potential.

Where have I said he shouldn't get pooped canned? Actually quite the contrary, but whatever. I'm just pointing out the reality of IUFB. Everyone is talking like we can get a coach like Saban, or whoever you desire, to come in here if we just throw money at him. That's not going to happen, ever. Or if it does, my remains will have already been scattered to the bosom of the pacific ocean here on Earth 1. I will gladly eat a large plate of crow if I'm wrong about hiring a 'real coach and staff' as you put it. But historically, that ain't happening. 

Allen is the type of coach that had it worked out, he doesn't get poached because we doesn't want to go anywhere. His stats are the best we've had in over 20 years!  Those are, unfortunately, the facts.

Follow up questions, if you still think he should go, what are your expectations for IUFB? Keep in mind these questions are here on Earth 1, not Earth 2. Realistic IUFB expectations.

Yes, he still needs fired. The entire staff needs fired. It is beyond clear, they are too stupid to actually make corrections.

That money can get offset by where he gets work next, but at best it'll be as a DC at a bad Power 5 team or as a HC for the even more bottom of the barrel at a mil per year tops.

btw, CTA cracked the top 10!...of the Coaches Hot Seat rankings.

The "we can't get a good coach" is an excuse. We can. Both Terry Hoeppner and Kevin Wilson were turning around this program. CTA can thank some of his success to the players CKW was able to recruit.
