80% nonsense. You’re comparing apples and oranges and getting a bananas result.

It is about the same level of nonsense as only saying an Indiana Guy is the only criteria needed for the next coach.  If my examples were all alive, 4 of them would meet the only criteria I have seen you lay out.  You never would have hired the best coach we ever had.

I would love it if a qualified coach has Indiana ties, that would be great, but if I had to list 1000 criteria for what I want in the next coach "Indiana Guy" wouldn't even make the list.

So, you switched it up a little.
You’re now comparing apples and pears but still comes out the same with a bananas result.

People on here using fifes time at ipfw as a negative maybe are not quite understanding that they were not even a division 1 team until he got there. He basically built the program and had some good seasons there but only so much you can do there. However they have beaten iu every time we have played them to my knowledge. God that hurts

Plus, what does “an IU guy” even mean in the year 2021? Steve Alford is an “IU guy,” Brad Stevens isn’t. How many people would take Alford over Stevens?

Bob Knight is modern-age IU basketball. He and IU basketball are one and the same to most fans. So, if we want someone to bring back the Bob Knight days, shouldn’t the criteria really be a “Bob Knight” guy? In that case, there’s an actual good candidate out there we could go after.

Time is literally the best indicator of what Dolson is trying to do. If we are down to a Fife type hire or Beilein, id expect a presser early next week. If not, id say he is still hunting something bigger. Personal point of view and by no means a rocket scientists take.

Short and simple:

Indiana guy is a tie breaker not a criteria, period.

Bingo.  If say it came down to Beard or Drew and you think both are toss ups on paper but one is an IU guy.  Then you hire the IU guy.  But under no other circumstance does that make sense.  The IU guys aren't qualified.

Chris Beard. We all wanted you know who. But I think Beard is the consensus number two. Love his enthusiasm. I don't care about style. He wins. Hell, he has more wins over Purdue than Miller does!! ('16 and '18 NCAA Tournament). He gets in the tournament and does well. If they win today I think Tech is one of three active programs currently to make at least the Sweet 16 in three straight years.(Gonzaga and FSU if they win) Good chance if they win today that they make the Elite 8 and give Baylor a run. I personally am not expecting anything until a week after their season ends. If IU truly offered Stevens that kind of money as reported, they can give Beard a nice offer too. I can't predict if he will win a National Championship or not. But I think IU has a chance with him.

I trust Scott Dolson. He attended Bob Knight's summer camp when he was 9 years old and has been obsessed with IU basketball all his life. He was a student manager on the 1987 championship team. He regularly attended Archie's practices. He knows basketball and he knew Archie was not a good fit. He won't settle for mediocracy. He went after Stevens like we all hoped he would. IU basketball is not only his passion but his life. I believe he will do everything in his power to get us back to a top program in the country. Speculating on the next coach is fun, but we need to just trust him and try to be patient, as hard as that is, lol.

So, many on here want another ...

Mike Davis

Kelvin Sampson

Tom Crean

Archie Miller

Instead of an Indiana guy.
How’d that workout.

Btw- have you seen Justin Smith at Arkansas?
Court is the same size.
Rim is the same height.
What changed?

You do realize that Arkansas doesn’t have an “Arkansas guy” coaching Smith......

Oooooffffff. Things are falling off the cliff in this coach search. And nothing has even happened. Lol.

Yeah....we get really close to our dream candidate — closer than anyone thought we would — and now everyone thinks we are going to end up with a guy who is at the bottom of the barrel.

Funny thing is, regardless of who we get, he’s going to be on some fans lists and off of other fans.  People need to stop taking the search as a personal affront where the only correct choice is what they think.

If TT loses to ARK today, rumors will start swirling I am sure. Interesting little nugget, Beard's buyout drops from $2.5M to $2M in ten days on April 1. Wonder if that would factor in on timing of announcement if he were the guy.

I think you have grossly underestimated the level of apathy this fanbase has reached. It’s at an unprecedented level.

How many posts now on threads about a new coach?  That’s not apathy.  If the fans were apathetic, Miller would still be here.  We’re upset.

I wasn’t big on Beilein at first, because of his age, but at this point there really isn’t anyone else that inspires my confidence. If he can give us 7 years and rebuild us to a destination job, maybe then there will be another home run hire that we can get for the long term. Right now, every other potential hire makes me very uncomfortable.
