Dolson wanted to get this done by 3/17. Well, let’s get it done. Now, if it’s a current coach (other than BB) I’m not going to sweat it. But BS or BD can be announced tomorrow. I give my permission.

There are no guarantees with any hire. A lot of names thrown out there are solid coaches, but nothing about them makes me think they are the game changer IU needs. McCollum seems to me to be the guy that can bring that. The guy who can be better than just a Sweet 16 every other year,  maybe a final 4. He's not the safest choice, but definitely the highest upside.

Stevens took that mid-major to two straight title games. I wouldn't be quite as hesitant (but I'd still be hesitant) if McCollum had any DI experience as a player or assistant, ala Cignetti, but he doesn't. What he did in DII was impressive, not denying that, but he'd be facing better players and coaching in every B1G game than he ever saw in DII; not a risk IU can afford to take right now.
