Nobody knows anything. 

The Brownell rumors are more substantiated (media people talking about it) than the Stevens rumors (IU message board posters are really the only people speculating about it).

Nothing inconsistent about that. Pretty linear thought process.

Championship level coaches win championships at every level. In no world is Brad Brownell considered a better winner than Ben McCollum. 
 

Todd Goldin, Nate Oats are killing it right now at football schools. Is the number of losing records and middle to bottom of the conference finishes our standard for hiring, this cycle? 
 

If McCollum (who’s won 12 straight league titles) is a huge risk, then Brad Brownell is a huge white flag.

If you are talking about in season, then Yes, but there is a bunch of legal stuff behind it since it would be considered a breach of contract and some other legal stuff. But I believe the NCAA prohibits it during in-season.

Consistency is the 10,000 foot short answer. McCollum has it and Brownell doesn’t.

With Brownell you have a good idea of what you're getting which is double digit losses every year, not competing for B1G titles, and missing the NCAAT more often than not. It's no coincidence that the ACC is terrible this year but it's also his best season.

McCollum  is a big risk, but he has won at a very high level until now so this he's viewed at having more potential. High risk/high reward type of hire.

Brad Stevens should have never been a point of discussion to begin with. These last two months just shows how far out of touch with reality most of this fanbase is. This hire was always going to be closer to a Brad Brownell type than a Brad Stevens type.

Almost all relevant and even not relevant programs have been able to hire a competent coach over the last 30 years except Indiana. It’s amazing that our university still cannot do it. 

Even after Archie and Woodson they still can’t do it. It’s stunning.

Yeah. This is kinda grim.

I can see the next week or two going as follows:

- When we are excluded or eliminated from the NCAA tournament we clamor for the announcement of the new coach.  If it goes on for a couple of days, pessimism about Stevens/Wright/Donovan/Wade not being the choice becomes deafening.

- Then, as other candidate's teams drop out, we eagerly expect word of their announcement. Each time we don't get announcement the monkeys get louder.

- If it goes on until the FF, we begin panicking unless one of those teams is coached by a perceived candidate. Otherwise, rioting begins.

- If nothing announced the day after the NC.....pure bedlam and absolute destruction.

Rabjons: I've been very comfortable for a while now that the top-2 on the hot board are the top-2. Trevor wanted to put Brownell at the top a week ago. I was hesitant. Trevor may turn out to be prophetic. We shall see. I don't think it's over, but I think the hot board has people in the correct ranges.
