Coming back to the college game to coach Indiana and resurrect us from the bowels of hell and finally win a national championship is the stuff legends are made of, and the challenge he has probably been longing for. I think this could be a big factor. He finished the job in the NBA and won an NBA Finals championship. Maybe he wants to finish the job in NCAA and win an NCAA national championship. Yes the entire conversation is subjective! People have strong opinions here as you know lol. You obviously are unmoved by Ben’s resume which is fine. The flip side of looking at it is that it’s very subjective to say a guy who has never been the main guy on the sideline/in the locker room can step into that role in a place like IU and win bigger than a guy who has multiple national titles in D2 and a mid-major conference title in his first D1 year. For me the biggest question with McCollum boils down to his recruiting. I am fairly confident if Archie’s personality and Woodson’s hand off approach could land 5 star talent, McCollum could do that here too. Very much doubt he will be the hire though. The waiver deadline is March 1 this year so there’s very little any GM/VP will do the rest of the year that impacts this year’s team. There are other responsibilities, but if, for example, an exec was leaving, those things (draft scouting, cap projection, contract extensions coming after the playoffs etc.) would all be much less pertinent. Chuck Surack is a major supporter of the Jacobs School. Not sure he is a major athletic department booster. He also owns an aviation company, so putting someone on a private plane is not a major thing for him to do. Surack is also a Northern Indiana native and a major booster of Notre Dame. Popular Post Motley's Posted March 6 Popular Post Posted March 6 Two names getting serious consideration are Dennis Gates and Anthony Grant. The major donors are acutely aware that there are only two African American coaches in the 18 team B1G. They don’t like that Woodson is being forced out and Ben Johnson may be out at MN. They don’t want the B1G to be all white coaches. Think the optics are terrible. They’d like to have Shaka in the mix, but don’t think he’ll leave Marquette. They’d love Tommy Amaker, but his record in recent seasons is a tough sell. Don’t count out Shrews either. Trish, J34, china423 and 10 others 8 3 2

Anything with IU is probably more likely being discussed elsewhere. Not sure how much time Brad spent in Indiana. But nice he’s choosing to spend time in his home state, even if only for the obvious reason. If his kid actually played or even dressed or ND was actually good I’d put zero weight on it. The president of the Boston Celtics watching two shitty college basketball teams on a random Wednesday is not nothing. His kid isn’t even listed in the box score. Brad also knows any appearance in the state is going to raise eyebrows no matter what the reason. Also as far as I can tell he’s not visited SB once all season. Pretty odd timing if you ask me.
