Am I crazy to think Woodson might try to walk back his "retirement" if he can win a couple games in the NCAAs?

Basically, try to rally booster support and force Dolson's hand on firing him?

You want to see a s###storm that would cause with the base?

I think you’re missing the part of formal announcement in 3 weeks. Nothing to do with Cody, he’ll be on staff

We’re going to hire a guy to be our head coach that hasn’t coached in college basketball in 12 years and we are going to surround him with people that have never coached or been GM ever?

I love Zeller the player but trying to wrap my head around how this makes sense. And this would be news to someone he is extremely close to

The biggest irony thing that could happen in this coaching search would be having to wait until IU loses in the NCAA tourney before they could announce Drew as the next head coach after Baylor doesn’t make the tourney.

Even better Baylor/IU meet in the First 4 and IU wins and then when IU loses  in the tourney IU hires Drew

You’re really trying to find something to be upset about. If it doesn’t work out then we get Drew. But it sounds like you have an agenda. I’m rooting for whatever you want buddy.

I’ve been clear that I don’t have Stevens high on my list. If he is going to be the coach I would like to see a veteran staff around him that has been in the college game, the current game and landscape.
it’s not an agenda. I want to win and I think there are safer options out there to achieve that. I think he is a gamble and we don’t need to gamble. Adding people like Cody is gambling even more given he has zero experience coaching or as a GM.

I think you’re over thinking all of this lol, the GM role is just a title they all do different things. He may not even be that, might just be on the staff which can vary from anything

I would hope if he is on staff he is in a Hulls type role where he isn’t a primary assistant but can learn. If Stevens were to return to college it would be partially due to him enjoying the interaction with young people. He got to know the Zeller family and Cody very well when recruiting him and his brothers

The guy figured out a way to get Butler to a national championship game...twice. I think he could handle coaching in today's game.

I actually don't get the take that Stevens is not a safe choice to win at IU with whatever staff he wants. Woodson was an NBA guy, but was never known as an Xs and Os savant; Stevens was literally considered one of the best tactical coaches in the NBA. The choice for best tactical coach in college basketball would immediately be between him and Pitino. Would be happy to eat crow, but I would go so far as to say Stevens is not a gamble at all.

Not wanting a guy with his track record "because he hasn't coached here in awhile" is the most IU fan-thing ever.
