Yes. 

Regarding the Otz smoke yesterday, he said he's heard nothing. 

He said IU has done background work on Devries and had preliminary conversation but doesn't believe he's high on the list. 

Beard: He said the info from the hysterics podcast was new and would be following up. 

Brad: heard nothing. 

Nothing new minus the Devries info.

 

Update: trilly dropped a hint that will wade may be throwing his name out there. That's how I took it.

There are literally folks that said he’s “too religious.” They have every right to have that opinion…I don’t care…but you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Relax

It’s partly this line of thinking which has made us suck for so long.

It 100% is. It comes down to do you want to win or do you want to lose but lose with feeling pure. None of the top coaches are angels. They all have a past just like knight did.

The moralists on this board should be more concerned about Drew getting put on probation for cheating. I also remember him getting a reprimand from the B12 for negative recruiting tactics. Although, Bill Self was a major complainer about that and he's no angel himself.

I think the changes to college basketball in terms of NIL will help a good basketball coach without high-level experience like McCollum. You'd have to support him more than an experienced coach but that is manageable.

Totally don’t understand the lack of enthusiasm for McCollum.  That Archie trauma must still be strong.  I understand it’s D2, but there’s 300+ division II teams and he won 4 national championships in like 14 years.  Check my math here, but that’s pretty f’n good.  He won 12 straight conference championships.  That is not just a great coach, that is a great system.  And all he’s done in 1 year in D1 is win a conference championship basically with D2 players.

I don’t think you stay in any place or in any job for 14 years without wanting to be there.  Why did Mark Few never leave Gonzaga when he clearly could have?  Just my personal opinion, but I’d rather gamble on a guy coming up that’s done nothing but win, then bet on a guy who has proven the best he can do is get to the tournament most years.

Downside is as scary as Beard and in a creepier way. FL closed the Title IX investigation, but there were some really weird accusations. Maybe all made up (why?) but it came from more than one woman. No claims of attempted extortion.

So this will sound crazy; I'm starting to see the outline of a Brownell hire making sense. His best two years have been the last two, which coincides with the NIL era. He would have better NIL at IU than Clemson. He's coached at this level before, and has engaged and beaten the best teams in the country often enough to know what an eilite team looks like up close. 

Think that's the argument. Can't tell if it's the Coaching Search Stockholm Syndrome talking...

McCollum hasn’t even proven that he can make it to the tournament most years. There are plenty of people who are superstars at lower levels in their fields but can’t chop it at the highest level. There’s an enormous difference between where McCollum spent the last 14 years and Indiana University basketball. Dude’s team was playing in gyms the size of 1A Indiana high school gyms.
