So IU's donors are affected by Ben Johnson's status at Minny? LOL

giphy (12).gif

Not affected, but they’re aware. You should probably research the major donors to IU bball and the causes that are important to them.

If his kid actually played or even dressed or ND was actually good I’d put zero weight on it. The president of the Boston Celtics watching two shitty college basketball teams on a random Wednesday is not nothing. His kid isn’t even listed in the box score. Brad also knows any appearance in the state is going to raise eyebrows no matter what the reason. Also as far as I can tell he’s not visited SB once all season. Pretty odd timing if you ask me.

Especially when Boston HAD a HOME game last night.

Also ACC tournament is coming up in Greensboro, NC if he really wanted to go watch ND/ his son wouldn't that make a lot more sense logistically?

If you think about it, the only way it makes sense for it to be this quiet is that there is a handshake deal with someone  who is a current college head coach, and it’ll get fully worked out when his team is done.

If you’re casting a wide net and talking to lots of candidates, there’s gonna be some leaks here and there. If you’ve come to an agreement with anyone involved in the NBA, there’s zero reason for it to be so quiet (you obviously can’t wait for their season to be over, and Woodson and everyone already knows he’s out. So what would be the hold up? Nothing.)

Logically, all that makes sense is that we have mostly a handshake deal with a current  college head coach and will finalize/announce when his team is done.

So who is it? Well, the bigger the name, the more likely there’d be a leak. There’s been nothing. So my guess is it’s a candidate like McCollum or Byington or Devries.

I think you're right that this is the most likely scenario.

I agree about there likely being a handshake deal in place, or at least a very specific small group of coaches being the focus, but don't think it reflects a specific group as that coaching source. As an example, SD wouldn't want Stevens or Donovan being known to be the guy as every press conference would devolve into questions about the next coach and it would do no favors to these players and, though I don't really care, this coach.

Two names getting serious consideration are Dennis Gates and Anthony Grant. The major donors are acutely aware that there are only two African American coaches in the 18 team B1G. They don’t like that Woodson is being forced out and Ben Johnson may be out at MN. They don’t want the B1G to be all white coaches. Think the optics are terrible. They’d like to have Shaka in the mix, but don’t think he’ll leave Marquette. They’d love Tommy Amaker, but his record in recent seasons is a tough sell. Don’t count out Shrews either.

Lmao.

Here's the deal everyone, as I've mentioned before, until the national media leaks it we just aren't going to know. Obviously communication is has been taking place between IU and the finalists. When I say that I wouldn't expect a big name, I'm thinking of people like Stevens, May, Pearl, Beard, Drew, Otz, Oats...and coaches like that whose names have been thrown around for month. Will the general public know something next week? I can't answer that. Will IU know who the coach is going to be at the end of the week? I think that is the hope. It's a weird time in college basketball. You have a limited time with the transfer portal open and it's open while the NCAA Tournament is going on. I don't think it's realistic to have a coach announced after the tourney and be able to put together a staff and a roster. I would assume 99% of our roster at least tests out the portal so will the new coach have to attempt to work 2 jobs at once like college football coaches do sometimes? Again, I have no idea. The actual people involved in this aren't going to share names of who we are potentially negotiating with and give this info out. So, the only thing I can say is that it sounds like we are getting closer. As far as names of who we are down to...again...I don't know. My own speculation says that Ben McCollum is definitely one of the candidates. Sorry, nobody is going to be able to come here and tell you for sure who the coach is going to be. Someone has been feeding some of the members on here Brad Stevens info for years that is bad info. If he ends up being the coach out of nowhere, I will gladly come back here and eat crow. Gladly.

comparing the NCAA tourney to coaches leaving a FB program before a nothing burger of a bowl game is wild bro. A coach leaving before coaching his team in the NCAA tourney would be more like a Football coach leaving before his team plays in the first round of the college football playoffs. No coach in there right mind will leave before exiting the NCAA Tourney don't care what the portal dates are . Plus NCAA tourney runs equate to potentially massive pay raises

So you think the coach is announced before the NCAA tourney (as you said yesterday) and that would mean IU would NOT be hiring a coach that coaching in the NCAA tourney and also is NOT what most would consider a big name ................. if that's the case than Dolson might as well light a match in the middle of SSAH and poor a gallon of gas on top of it LOL

“Sorry son, I’d love to come visit you at college, but it’d raise eyebrows for a job 3+ hours away, so I gotta stay away.”

"That I've already turned down twice, but you know, there's 3-4 guys on this forum called BTown Banners that are hearing I'm accepting the job...at least you can come play for me next year"

Not the place to discuss, and this is probably a troll post, but I could absolutely see the IU donors having this mentality. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Not to be political but this sounds like a DEI stuff.

Didn’t think I needed an asterisk saying I don’t think it actually has anything to do with the IU head coaching position but is fun to speculate so*

*I don’t think Brad Stevens visiting his kid actually has anything to do with our job, but it’s fun to speculate when there is zero other news of note.

Not supporting anything or shooting anything down, just saying it's completely normal for an NBA Pres of Bbal ops, GM, etc., to not be at one of his teams games.

Of course they attend a lot, but certainly not all especially during the college bball season.

So while you can infer signs from some things, Stevens not being at the Celtics game last night isn't really one of them on its own.

Just out of curiosity, how is it “on its own” when you’ve been here to refute probably 25 different things?
