General Coach Candidate News

Why would Cronin and Brownell be in the same category? One guy goes to the tournament every year and the other one goes 33% of the time.

It was a generalization. I don’t think Brownell is in Cronins category from a coaching perspective, but I think they’d be in the same tranche if we get past T1. Cronin isn’t in that group. The P5 second tier has a much wider gap individually, because I don’t think there’s a third tier of P5s— the search goes mid major at that point.

I’ve argued plenty I think Cronin would be a good hire. I just don’t personally have him in the Stevens/Drew/Otz category.

He has to want to job.  I would be fine with Cronin.  I think he would kill it at IU.  However something would of had to change from the last cycle for him to want the IU job unlike 4 years ago

Yeah NIL (which UCLA lacks) and UCLA moving to the B10.

Ok? He makes the tournament and competes for conference titles nearly every year. If that's what the next 8-10 years look like, sign me up.

Sure, if that's what he gives you. But competing for Pac 12 titles isn't as good as it sounds - that league was so weak. In the last four years, he had two really good years and two years pretty similar to IU's last couple years under Woodson (and yes - I realize that one of those years he was a bubble teams that snuck in and went on a tournament run, but I'm not big on hiring based off one-off tournament runs).  His success at UCLA is a lot more like Crean at IU.

There's an awful lot of projected improvement to get him to competing for Big 10 titles nearly every year.

You've literally lost your mind. I've pumped close to 200 posts, maybe more, in support of Cronin and I was suspended from posting for two weeks in February.

My stance on who I want as a coach has been clear since the end of January. And I've made it known. Multiple times.

…..I think it’s safe to say that you are real close to another “time out”!
By all means, keep it up! Lol

He would absolutely be happier on HSN, but it's not large or active enough for him.

Don't you see? He has a message for the masses, and it's critically important that everyone hears it.

Anyone who disagrees with him has a child-like grasp on reality.

Never mind that I spent all offseason speaking down to anyone skeptical Woodson could compete for a B10 title and reach the second weekend of the tournament. This roster was supposed to make BTB like a morgue before the end of January!

Then the Bahamas happened.

What is your batting average, chief?

I personally think he'd fit in well on rivals.

I'd venture to say you've pumped well over 200 posts of condescension to anyone who ever thought of Brad Stevens on this board.

People only remember your poor attitude rather than any of your preferences. People haven't lost their minds, just their patience.

Seriously, you don't have to puff your chest at everyone all the time. If you want people to take you seriously you have to back off the 40 grit personality.

For what it's worth, I agree Cronin would do well here and he's a better fit here than UCLA. I wouldn't be mad at that hire. And for as cringe as he is, Wade would be able to succeed here, too, and I think he'd come running.

Incoming "IDGAF what you think" response....

I’m not here for likes, then again I don’t pretend to be some self-important person on an anonymous message board…I’m perfectly comfortable in my own skin.

All true but he still has to want the IU job. Unless somethings changed personally to where he wants the IU job unlike 4 years ago then I don’t see him taken the IU job

I think Cronin would take the IU job if offered for the two above mentioned reasons…that weren’t issues 4 years ago.

Whenever you find yourself taking on an entire forum, 100:1, you might want to consider that perhaps, just perhaps, you are the problem.

What’s the problem? Raining on your Brad Stevens parade?

Sorry?

Not trying to start an argument but we don't know that they even got to the vetting process last hire. It could've been that Beard had a pretty strong inclination that UT was opening up and he told the search committee (I guess Dolson since no committee was hired) that he wasn't interested. Could also be that Dolson didn't even inquire about Beard. All of those could be true and not many of us will ever know the truth.

This is a good point that I am not sure has been mentioned yet.  I remember there were pretty strong rumors he was a strong TX lean and the "we were not interested anyway" comments could be from vetting, partial vetting or just what you say when you come in 2nd.

Or it's time to go find another forum. You aren't going to force through sheer will your opinion on everyone else. Either it's being an antagonist you love, or you're in the wrong group.
