The committee has done/is doing quite a bit of background work on Beard. No idea where that ultimately goes. alan huss is an interesting name. i think he's a little further down the list of candidates today, but an interesting name. No coach has signed any agreements, no coach has been hired to this point. still work to be don but some really good options

I do not like the word “committee.”  It triggers my IUBB coach search PTSD.

Everyone says this is Scott’s show this time around, how is there a committee?

I would hope that Alan Huss is not on the list or the list after or even mentioned on the list after the list. Thats worse than Mark Turgeon by a mile.

Funny how the story says Chris Beard's name keeps popping up, but cites only Rick Pitino endorsing him and Rick Bozich speculating that he might be a candidate.

From that, we go to "Indiana expected to pursue" Beard.

Um, no. You cannot draw that conclusion from those two pieces of non-news.

It's all pure rampant speculation. None of these guys knows who IU is really pursuing

I’ll say this for Beard despite being in the no group for him, it would be nice if we hired someone who actually wanted the job. Feeling like we are begging people to come resurrect the program is tiring.

That said, my guess is Beard is going to be willing to crawl to every big job that opens until someone gives him a chance to be in a fishbowl again. I don’t doubt he has some affinity for RMK and maybe that makes the job special to him, but I’d guess he would have walked to Lexington or Louisville as well given the chance.

His connection to RMK is a nice story for me, but it doesn't move the needle much. Mike Davis, Mike Woodson, Randy Wittman, Dan Dakich, Isiah Thomas, and Pat Knight all had RMK connections, too. I love his desire for the job, and it does mean something to me. Although, he'd still be at Texas over IU if they let him. Also, credible DV allegations and a possible substance abuse problem not addressed just scream no unless he starts to really take responsibility for those issues and shows real growth ala Steve Sarkisian.

Here’s a name that Bozich and Coyle have mentioned a couple times in pure speculation…Greg Gard.  Is only 54 and we could easily double his salary.  Has little NIL at WI so he could compete for titles at IU.  Plays smart basketball that would be a hit here.  I have no idea if he’d listen but locking up one of the top 15-20 coaches in college basketball for the next 12-15 years wouldn’t be a bad thing.

That's an interesting possibility, but hard to conceive he'd be fully interested.

I think Gard is very interesting given how bad his rosters have been poached. Maybe he’s sick of losing good players. Gard with IU resources would win a ton of games imo.

Alan Huss? Really?

You may have gotten the Archie hire right but you’re losing a lot of credibility putting that out there.

Did not expect an Alan Huss name drop banger haha

Google him. He wins.

I would clearly prefer Otz, Drew, McCasland, Cronin, Buzz, but Huss absolutely has more D1 success and experience, recruiting connections, and pedigree than McCollum, and he’s gotten mentioned here.

To all of the self appointed experts, there’s a reason that Huss and Odom were the top two mid major coaches identified by people in the industry when they were off the record and able to give their honest opinions.
