McCollum.  I have said that for over a month.  He was contacted early on.  I know someone there.  There were multiple discussions.  We did talk to him about his wants and needs.  I don’t know anything on the IU side though.

To me, McCollum is maybe the most intriguing ‘what if’ candidate. Seems like the upside is astronomical, just no idea what his floor looks like being in charge of a D1 behemoth of a program. I’ve watched some Drake since Woody got canned and the deliberate offense isn’t nearly as mind numbing as I thought it would be just looking on paper. Ultimately I’d be pretty surprised if Dolson risked it on a guy with exactly zero Q1 experience but who knows.

Would definitely fit the Cignetti-type hire for Dolson on the basketball side...I'd get behind it but I'm just not sure it's the risk IU should take.

Did McCollum indicate he wanted the job?

Ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you to IU new basketball coach, Bruce Weber!

If Dolson hires him, the prophecy will once again ring true:

Quote

– Weber, on the Big Ten race: “The league should be wide open... I do know one thing, though. I think Indiana will suck. Don’t put that on the Internet.”

He prefers Iowa

Apologies up front -- here comes a little snark even though you are a great poster!

  • Last I checked the Iowa job is not open.
  • I'm guessing he probably prefers Duke over either job.
  • Dusty May was thought to prefer Louisville until Michigan explained their job to him.
  • Dolson's job is to sell the value of the IU job to whoever he feels is the best candidate. That sell can be with money, achievement potential, resources, anything and everything.
  • If Dolson can't sell our job over a job like Iowa's? That's a candidate that isn't appropriate for IU anyway,  because that's a candidate that doesn't want the limelight.

OK so I didn't miss anything last night. Wonder why it has been so quiet. I haven't been able to get much info from people close to the situation since Feb 14 morning. Even when I do they will never use the candidate by name.

I understand not naming the candidate, and the  last thing in the world I would want to do is violate their need for discretion,  but by any chance is the new coach sometimes called a masshole??
