IMO... Yes! That does not mean it's impossible though.

Some of our best posters that think he's the most likely choice have absolutely qualified their thoughts.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't feel like going through this thread to find this kind info. Appreciate it.

Never really thought Baylor as a Top 10 was sustainable, so I don't agree with some big slip that you're seeing.

But, still... having him below TJ O is truly sort of baffling to me, I guess maybe Few is his equal? But Few plays in a mickey mouse league.

This makes sense if the idea is that the last three years is consistent with Baylor's old ceiling; I can see that. The only comparison that comes to mind is Kelvin Sampson at Houston, a program that was middling to bad in CUSA before he got there. He got them to be elite in the American and now elite in the Big 12. Thought Drew might have turned that corner a few years ago, but Baylor's fallen back to the pack.

Drew could be elite at IU. But there's also a chance that he runs a top-15ish program, with mediocre to bad defense showing up more often than people would like. That was my reason for the Crean comparison a few pages back.

ok.. the Drew rumblings and then you think about the alleged meeting with Indiana Elite that Dolson had.... hmmmmmmmm lol... I am not a conspiracy guy, usually, that's kinda something though, right? What it means, I have no idea.

Hey, some common ground! I really do not see how you can put TJO ahead of SD if Drew is an option. Few I would maybe get since the Zags schedule pretty aggressively in the non-con which he always seems to do well, and he has a couple final fours.

Agreed.

But, for fun, let's say IU can have it's choice of the following (for equivalent money with salary/buyouts). Who do you pick?

Few - Proven winner, but no title. Would likely be hungry to get over the hump here. Probably only has 8-10 years left, max, though.

Drew - Proven, national championship coach. But recent results slipping a bit. Does he still have the hunger? At 54, could be the guy for ~15 years.

Otzelberger- Never advanced beyond the Sweet 16, but has had immediate, impressive success at Iowa State. Clearly still hungry. Could be here 20-25 years if all goes well.

Drew

Few

Otzelberger

For those that care...apparently Trilly posted on his Discord (I am not a paying member for that) that Ben McCollum would choose Iowa over IU if he were offered both positions. This brought much gnashing of teeth and "woe is me" fatalism from many.

Meanwhile, on Peegs, Jeff Rabjohns posted that Ben McCollum is "one of the coaches IU has reached out to/about". He posted that McCollum is not the only one but he is one. What does any of it mean? That is for people smarter than me (there are many, many options that qualify) to figure out!

He was considered a home run hire by 99 percent of the national media and people in college basketball.   Most on here thought the same thing.   @Joshhowever from the very beginning hated the hire and said he would fail from the beginning.   Josh was right

I'll take "Things you don't hear every day" for $1000.

That's been said for a while. He wants Iowa.

Can someone please just when they announce the coach - post it - hack into the time/space continuum - backdate the post to now (or right when we announced the retirement) and let us know who it is?

If I have to do this for another 3 or 4 weeks my head may explode.

If I recall, Miller was considered an "ok" hire at the time due to his past runs with Dayton, but we all know how that worked out.  That's why most here are wary of going with the mid-major flavor of the month type for this hire.  Regardless, you make a good point.  The mismanagement of the IU Basketball brand has been atrocious through some of these past coaching hires and it can only go up from here.

A lot of people loved the Miller hire and thought it was a homerun. I thought it was a double at best, I wasn't at all surprised we had to move on.
