He was 16-17 last year (his 5th year) at UCLA if Cronin goes 16-17 his fifth year at IU the student section will be chanting “fire Cronin” and leaving at halftime Cronin just isn’t a fit IMO. Personality is abrasive (can’t imagine Dolson would enjoy that in the athletic office everyday), he whines a lot, UCLA fans don’t show up to watch his teams. Positive would be I am sure UCLA wouldn’t be too sad to see him leave, so might get a negotiated deal on the buyout. But guys like him will wear on you. And his personality isn’t going to change just by coming here. I have heard that he was very interested in the Louisville job last season and they passed. Having said that….I’ll take him anytime over Brad Brownell Pryght 1

I'm not going to go too deep in the weeds on the Beard stuff but I'm not going to act like I know something about what other universities did or didn't do and why they didn't hire a particular coach. It's about the perception that he is an alpha, along with some kind of cultural/social signaling about not caring about the DV incident and his other baggage. I’m torn between wanting to see Stevens at IU and hoping that meteor hits us 10 years early. Cannot tell you how much I’m self-medicating via this coaching search. IndianaSconnie90 1

For me it’s 1. Who is a better recruiter 2. Who will target high school players because Indiana has wayyy too many good ones to be portal hunting only 3. WHO is good at X’s and O’s. IMO there is a reason Calapari isn’t great at Arkansas and it has to do with him being a bad X’s and O’s guy and now that playing field is even and he can’t cheat for 5 stars he’s struggling. 4. Who could be here for 15-20 years and not wear out their welcome. If IU got tired of Crean I don’t see how Cronin wouldn’t wear out his welcome 5-6 years into it since he’s not afraid to call out his players or the fans which won’t go over well here. skhoosier2 and woodenshoemanHoosierfan 2
RoadRage Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 I refuse to take the bait on Beard’s history, but I wonder if this forum should allow the bait in the first place. The charges were dropped and the complaint recanted, so it borders on defamation to allow people to accuse him as if he was found guilty. I am not even sure that legally the school can use these allegations against him? That is all I am saying on the issue since I was not present and have no idea what happened that evening. go iu bb 1

I don’t want someone with Cignettis personality though. I want someone a little more humble who can still demand a room. Cignetti has to win every year IMO to be able to maintain his level of cockiness and if he doesn’t then fans will turn on him quickly due to it. thebigweave and Pryght 2

And since we’re back on the Beard thing, given a choice of Cronin or Beard I would take Cronin 10 times out of 10 because, and if it makes me holier than thou than I guess it does, but not beating women strikes me as a minimum expectation for the job. Let’s do a comparison: Coach A: Great winning percentage for over ten years at top tier programs. NOT an alcoholic. Coach B: Great winning percentage for over ten years at top tier programs. An alcoholic. I’m picking ‘A’, (Cronin) over ‘B’ (Beard). And that’s even if Cronin is a bit cranky, and doesn’t even incorporate the domestic violence allegation. sixseis, Eagle’s Rug, Pudman and 4 others 7

Wow….I love Cignetti’s personality, he had to change the culture here from a team that expected to lose to one that expected to win. I hope he doesn’t change a thing. I don’t think any of the coaches on our radar have that level of cockiness so I don’t think you have to worry. Biggest question IMO is can he recruit at p5. With our resources, I bet yes. Not saying we should jump straight to him but I don’t think this comparison is very apt. gfeltner28 1
WRSMick55 Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 After reading these weeks of “ next coach” conversations, I think it’s fortunate that it’s not up to this board to hire the next coach. One would never get hired. ( I have no favorite ) Luckily , Dolson is leading the decision process and not any of us participants. Hiring a coach is a subjective decision as Nostradamus is not hiring so it’s all a crapshoot of sorts. Class of '66 Old Fart and Chris007 2
